Boxing has been on the decline in the U.S., more or less, since the 2000's and in Boston, where I live, it's all pro and college baseball, football, basketball, hockey, that is followed attentively. I wish that there was some hometown boxers that would generate some interest and enthusiasm in the sport...

you speak of europe as if it's one whole country, no one in the UK gives a **** about german boxers or russians and vice versa. i've been to the UK many times (my mother lives there) and boxing is big but not huge there. they only care about their own fighters, calzaghe, hatton, khan, haye and thats about it. they are building froch up now as we speak because calzaghe has retired.Comment

I think the Hatton v Mayweather fight, Amir Khan's arrival on the pro scene and Joe Calzaghe's final few fights plus his sports personality of the year award all happening at roughly the same time put boxing in the public eye more so than it had been for a while
Setanta is pretty much the boxing channel, ITV4 regularly has a boxing show and Sky Sports has Prizefighter and Khan/Hatton - so it's doing pretty well
I think most lads have a casual interest in it but there aren't too many "hardcore" fans about
I can't speak for the rest of Europe though, but it seems to be doing great in Germany at leastComment

Boxing is a tiny sport in Denmark, but Mikkel Kessler is immensely popular. But it's him and him alone that drives the sport. When he fights and it's PPV several sportsbars particularly in Copenhagen shows it. That includes his sisters strip-joint.
In germany the sport is probably booming as they have several worldclass fighters based there. The sport really took off with Henry Maske and Sven Ottke who where 2 popular figures from DDR which definetely hepled. Since then several imports has made it big.
I don't know if sportsbars in the major cities show boxing. Probably not many as boxing is on public service TV. A better answer to your question regarding Germany can probably be given by Zerwas or Tobi.G.Comment

Thanks for the response Bat. BTW, have you ever considered making a trip to Germany to watch a fight live? How long a plane ride would it be from Denmark?Comment
