    Question to European boxingscene posters..

How prevalent is boxing in Europe and is its popularity increasing? As a boxing fan in the U.S., I always comment that Germany is becoming the "European version of Las Vegas" because so many big fights are happening there and the number of boxers fighting out of Germany seems to be increasing.

However, I've been to parts of Europe but never Germany; so the question is, is my assessment correct or am I mistaken. Also, I will be traveling to Amsterdam in the future and would love to watch a Klitschko, Calzaghe, Povetkin, etc fight in a bar with some European boxing fans. Does anyone know if any of the local bars broadcast big fights happening in Germany or in Britain?

    Thoughts/comments?

I was in Russia for 3 weeks during a social coarse i took a while ago, (completely free ) and the local bars or whatever they call them there, were packed to gills when LEWIS-TYSON was going on. I coulnt get stool or anything.

      They take there boxing seriously.

And They sell out stadiums for snoozefights so boxing is very popular in those areas, i know that

In the Uk it is basically a niche sport except for glory hugger supporters like hatton fans.

I am; I'm after anyone who can provide some insight on the European stage. I think the sport is becoming much more popular over there (than in the U.S.) and find that interesting...

It is not what you'd call popular in the UK. None of my friends watch boxing, or are even what you'd call casual fans. My Dad is pretty much the only boxing fan I know. It's definately a fringe sport. And its not improving either.

I feel I can only accurately speak of the UK, and thats: not as big as I remember it even 5 years ago. As far as 10-15 years ago, it seemed massive in the UK and world then with Lennox, Hamed, Eubank, Benn, Tyson and Holyfield active.

It's still reasonably signficant and the absolute top guys get some good ish coverage, but it's no way near as prominent as it was which is a shame.

I found it odd Manny or someone, spoke of UK as a boxing mad country recently. I guess it is still big but if that constitutes as boxing mad, boxing is in a worser state then many are realising, admitting based on previous times.

British boxers do get some good coverage, but that's about it. For example, the BBC didn't have a story on the Marquez-Diaz fight for about 3 days after it finished!

A lot of my mates watched Hatton vs Mayweather, but the majority of them had never heard/seen PBF before. And they're all big sports fans.
