It would have been better had he said that both are heroes. How did you feel about him saying this?
how is Dlh,morales, and barrera heros? what have they done outside the sport to be fair? i mean they are sacrificing themselfs for the sake of financial gain and the entertainment of others....soldiers die in combat and dont get paid millions to do so they are doing a selfless act.

A hero in boxing has to transcend like muhammed ali.

Teddy was 100% correct, nobody is trying to kill a boxer in the ring, there are rules to play by, but the men and women fighting *********s overseas have people trying to kill them everyday, they work long hours in grave danger and they are doing it for little reward.

The very posters who put down Teddy for what he said "the real heroes are the men and women he met at the hospital, and their fellow soldiers still fighting" - consider this - which boxer is out there defending the very way of life that allows you to watch boxing? Which boxer said "no" to a career and joined the military after seeing what happened on 9-11? Did you feel such conviction or are you content to let someone else take care of your sorry ass?!

If it were not for the men and women in our armed forces - both the past and present, you would not have the freedom to even post on this forum, much less be able to watch boxing at your leisure.

For the record, Ali wasn't making a statement about the war, he was no hero, he was a coward who didn't want to risk getting shot. The media let him put a spin on it so he could save face, he was after all a media darling, always has been, always will be...

There is a difference between a hero and a warrior. I consider the soldiers heroes, they put their lives on the line to protect my(and every other American's) freedom.

But anyone who fights in the ring or in the military is a warrior.

Thank you, I agree with your view on the matter as well.

How dare anyone on this or any other forum put down anyone including Teddy and Joe for calling the armed forces fighting overseas "heroes" especialy on THIS holiday weekend, that really pissed me off and if I offended anyone by my rant - too friggin bad, cupcake ...

Thanks for the good words. Memorial Day is a cool 3-day weekend for most of us. It's rough on guys like my father, who saw some of his best friends die in Vietnam.

A got mad respect for anyone who fights professionally, but it's nowhere near the respect I have for those who wear the uniform.

                      Agreed.
Doesn't take a much in the way of courage to drop thousands of tons of bombs on people without an airforce.
