Hang them up Toney...
James Toney Shows Little in Split Decision Win

I was actually pretty surprised to hear that Toney struggled with this journeyman as much as did even though he did come in out of shape. I thought that, over-weight or not, Toney would dominate Batchelder to a one sided decision or possibly a late stoppage. I don't know where Toney goes from here and there can't be alot of hope for him if he can't beat a tough journeyman fighter.
Also, I give props to Batchelder for not laying down and making this an 'easy fight' as Toney's handers had hoped. It's journeymen fighters like Batchelder who play an important, but not glamorous, role in 'testing' the decent fighters and trying their best to win fights when everyone has written them off. Anyways, maybe Toney should give Batchelder a rematch...Comment

I still thought deep down that Toney still had the skills to get another shot as long as he gets in shape. Now I think hes just losing it. He talks about finally being focused and losing weight, and he shows up out of shape again. Then he cant even handle a guy he should dominate. Its all over for Toney, and unfortunatly I dont see him retiring any time soon.Comment

You're right and if he can't dominate a figher like Batchelder, then he has no business getting into the ring for a possible fight with Jirov...I still thought deep down that Toney still had the skills to get another shot as long as he gets in shape. Toney is fighting in a division that isn't natural to him. He's fighting large men as the smaller, blown up fighter who had to pack on pounds to make heavy. It used to be alright because James had the skills to make sure these big guys couldn't hurt him. But what happens when you put a naturally smaller, fat and out of shape, old fighter with slowing reflexes in with a big puncher who is a decent fighter? It just sounds like a recipe for us to watch Toney get knocked out cold. I also doubt a guy with his competitiveness with hang them up until he learns that lesson.Comment

no trust me, give batchelder no props cause he didnt fight he ran the whole time and still landed the harder blows on toney.I was actually pretty surprised to hear that Toney struggled with this journeyman as much as did even though he did come in out of shape. my god, if toney gives batchelder a rematch its not gonna be in the bay area cause everyone knows that he is done. that might have been the worst fight ive seen all year. too bad i didnt watch this spinks/taylor fight cause maybe that could have competed with it.Comment

thats not the problem. for whatever reason he was slapping, didnt get his weight on the punches. he kept his hands at his waist and his jab was slow and hell, none landed when he kept his hands there.Comment
