The percentages aren't as relevant here as they normally would be. Look at how much more Spinks threw (200+ more) and landed only 16 less than what Taylor did.

Spinks lost because he can't punch, not because he didn't do good enough on points.

This kind of reminds me of the Sam Soliman/Winky Wright fight. People were crying bs at the end, but Sam wasn't hurting Wink one iota with what he landed despite all them punches he threw compared to Wright.

Even though Spinks won technically imo, awarding him the fight would have set a terrible precedent and murkied the judging waters more than usual. There should be more guidelines in allowing a fighter to move up. If a fight can't be genuinely competitive because the size disparity is so great, than the smaller fighter needs to stay near his weight class. It will seriously help in avoiding some borefests.

Of course you would have it a draw, Sam threw enough punches to skew the result (over 1000 if I remember) and what he landed was straight pitter pat. The point is he didn't hurt Wink, just like Spinks couldn't hurt a cat and it cost him the fight.
