I brought it up cuz its cheating...spitting a mouthpiece really isnt. You do it you pay on the scorecards.
That was a rough fight and both men were guilty of a little bit of foul play, not just Hatton. Besides which the only warning the ref gave during the fight was for low blows. If the clinching, elbows and headbutts were considered cheating the referee would have warned both men more.

As for spitting out the mouthpiece, the rules of boxing are that if you are not on your feet and ready to resume from a knockdown by the count of ten then you are counted out and considered knocked out. If you spit out your mouthpiece deliberately to get another few seconds rest then you are not ready to continue at the count of ten and should therefore be considered knocked out. There is madness to my method...

Wrong. Dave Parris is the most sketchiest ref in the biz. Hes been in too many shady call/reffing to be un-noticed. There was a point in that fight when Tszyu was holding and Hatton looked to Parris and Parris broke them up. Rewatch that fight please.

If what you said is true, verbatim, about the mouthpiece then you'de have seen alot of fights stopped by TKO. I dont think theres anything about the mouthpiece in the rule book like you say. You cant read in between the lines of rules and make new ones up. If you spit your mouthpiece and make the count then you made the count. Thats why they take a point.

Like Rogain....it was prescript for old poeple cuz it oxygenates the skin...so Rogain thinks...well if it oxygenates the skin then it can do that to the head and make hair grow. Wrong...it doesnt work and is a scam. See my point? Sorry for using a different model.

I don't think that the ref should have stopped it because corrales spit out the mouth piece twice. Instead he should have just made Corrales fight without the piece on until the action was less intense.

I've watched that fight maybe a dozen times, though I haven't really looked for evidence of a refereeing conspiracy. What I have noticed is that people look for excuses (It was in Britain, the refereeing was corrupt / it was on HBO the refereeing was corrupt etc). If you look for conspiracies then you will find them, it's just one of the things about conspiracies. Hey I noticed that Corrales looked at the referee in the last round og the first Castillo fight. Could mean he let him off with a point instead of disqualifying him. I suggest you watch the fight again...

A fighter has to be on his feet and ready to continue before the count of ten. There wouldn't need to be a change in the rules to implement my suggestion, just a change in the interpretation of the rule. If the action has to be stopped in order to replace the mouthpiece the fighter isn't ready to continue when the count reaches ten. I'm sure referees could be lenient if the mouthpiece was knocked out, but if it was spat out as it was by Corrales and recently Miranda (and it was very cynical by Miranda) then it's simple: Keep counting. You're not ready to continue, pal.

And this makes no sense. You couldn't have picked a less relevant analogy.

I dont know if it's cheating, since you are basically saying that you are willing to lose a point to get a split second breather. I guess its boderline cheating, or subjective. For example, I dont think Chico did it intentionally the second time he spit it out. I think he meant to take it out of his mouth and hold it in his glove and it fell out. But the first time, he did it to get a breather. However, he did it as soon as he went down. Consider Edison Miranda, who spit it out right after he was given his 8 count AND took his steps towards the ref. That was blatant cheating, imo. And Smoger correctly deducted a point from him. I dont think it's grounds for stopping a fight, unless the fighter is out of it.

                it is of course cheating,

like low blows, headbutts, kidney punches, rabbit punches, hitting on the break, punching the hips, holding and hitting, elbowing, holding behind the head...

If Castillo knocked Chico out we would not be talking about it, because it would not have mattered. Obviously the fight was decided by that event, so we are still talking about it.

In the beginning I was pissed because what I saw was Castillo was robbed of his KO victory in that fight.

But afterwards, as the past two years went by, seeing how Chico was ruined by that fight (he never won a fight afterwards), I guess it is ok in the grand scheme of things. Like he said before the fight, he was ready to die and I think he did die a bit that night.

For the same reason, if I could go back in time and change a ref call, I would change Chavez-Taylor 1. (except in that case Taylor did not do anything close to cheating, all the cheating was DK being JCC's promoter)

That incident caused Vegas to pass a rule that if a fighter intentionally spits out his mouthpiece twice in a fight, it's an automatic DQ.

Can you imagine if it was Mayweather, knocked down twice and spit his mouthpiece out twice to gain extra seconds and came back later in the fight to stop De La Hoya? There would have been a full blown riot in here.

It was definitely cheating. After watching Miranda do it, its to the point where Id rather them just continue the fight, but mouthpieces prevent brain injury so they would never allow it.
