Ask if you can go and train to keep fit. Then tell them how much you love it. Eventually they'll cave and let you try it, even if it's only in the hope that you'll quit the first time you get socked on the nose. If it's any consolation my parents don't like me boxing either, and I'm 30 years old and live on a separate continent. My dad keeps suggesting I get a sponsor for my matches. I could paint their logo on the soles of my shoes...

But no, everyone in Iraq enlisted in the Army/Air Force/Navy/National Guard themselves.
I don't think any politician would dare reinstate the draft, it would be political suicide in this day and age.

I understand there worry for you safety and thats why probably today boxing isn't a mainstream sport because parents don't want there kids to do it for the safety reasons. Do you come from a pretty wealthy family? Because there comment about the sport not being high class seems ignorant. I know a lot of boxers come from rough lives and bad situations, but that doesn't mean that everybody in the sport is poor and uneducated. It seems like your trying to educate your parents about the sport which is good. If it's really what you want to do you have to go for it and if your parents truely care about you they will let you pursuit it. Like others have said it's probably good that you train for a while before you start having matches. Good Luck I hope it works out for you, we need more young athletes now a days turning to boxing.

Not that I know a lot about the boxing training process, but I'd assume if you've never trained at all before - you have quiet a ways to go before you have any real fights, anyways.
And honestly, just tell your parents you love them but you really want to do this - and you will one way or another - but that you'd really like their support in this, and to be apart of it with you.
If they still disagree, do what you have to do. If they really love you, they'll come around (eventually). That said, I don't blame your parents one bit for being afraid for you - so don't think they're trying to be *******s - they just don't want you to get hurt.
