  • Parents scared of amateur boxing

Well both my mom and dad dont want me to box as an amateur cause they think ill get brain damage and they think ill be more rough around people and not calm anymore. they also say its not high class and i guess they kinda think its gunna make me somehow more of a bad person. also they say boxers are ****** or something, even though ive told them there are pro boxers that are in college n stuff. mostly they dont want me boxing cause they think its really dangerous and ill get brain damage though. i showed them sites of comparing amateur boxing to football and other sports but they dont believe me and tell me not to believe everything i read. i also showed them deathrates, but they say just because an amateur doesnt die, he can still have brain damage. i really wanna box as an amateur, but i would really need to convince them first. can anyone give me some info? thanks.

already showed them a lotta that stuff, but they dont believe it cause if a trainer or something says its dangerous, then they wouldnt be able to get as much money. ive showed them a lotta pages about the safety and had them talk to trainers, but they still wont let me right now.

Yeah. You're at that age where you just gotta stand up to them.

well if i cant win this argument about boxing, then ill just have to wait till im 18. my mom said she would let me train, but wouldnt let me fight, so i guess ill be training hard till im 18 and then finally be able to box, without letting my mom know since she would be terribly scared.

                Well, start training.

Not that I know a lot about the boxing training process, but I'd assume if you've never trained at all before - you have quiet a ways to go before you have any real fights, anyways.

And honestly, just tell your parents you love them but you really want to do this - and you will one way or another - but that you'd really like their support in this, and to be apart of it with you.

If they still disagree, do what you have to do. If they really love you, they'll come around (eventually). That said, I don't blame your parents one bit for being afraid for you - so don't think they're trying to be *******s - they just don't want you to get hurt.
