I havent seen too much of AZ Alkamaar but im fully aware of the great Job Van Gaal has done, glad to see he is back on form, his 2nd stint at barcelona was shocking,

    This was his big idea,

"Ill freeze out one of the most gifted players of the last 20 years, Juan Roman Riquelme, and ill bring back overmars"

After that, everyone knew what was gonna happen.

    lol.

    • Judging by the way Lacy's face looked at the end of the fight, that "slapping" was pretty damned rough.

      • While it's true Calzaghe's left hook isn't too impressive, his straight shots do most of the cumulative damage. They are plenty heavy. They shoot straight in.....

          • It will be someone weak. They were also talking about Gerard Houllier. I don't know why, perhaps the management are tired of the league and fancy a break in the Conference North.

They are obviously doing what they need to do to win, so you either criticise all, or none. Personally, I'm going to go for the latter.

Criticise them for other things, sure, but quit with the 'Hugman Hatton' and 'Calslappy' labels. Interesting how Floyd doesnt have such a nickname as far as I'm away.
              haha, what about 'Floyd Mayrunner'!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                  • those flaws should be held against them because they employ those tactics willingly. they dont have to, they could probly still win without them, but they chose to.

IMO, the difference is what the fighters have to say about their styles. calzaghe and mayweather both make the same excuse "i hurt my hand". and floyd especially gets really defensive about it, often attacking whoever is interviewing him. calzaghe doesnt really talk about it, but his actions speak louder than his words. joe calzaghe has made a career of making excuses. "i hurt my hand, they dont wanna fight me". he says he wants the big money fights but he fights manfredo and bika, neither of whom presented a real challenge to him. so floyd and joe both make excuses about how they fight.

hatton just says "thats my game, thats how i fight". one of the most endearing qualities out ricky hatton is his honesty and his down-to-earth personality. he admits he eats too much and gets way too fat. he admits he hugs too much. he fights like that because of his size. hes a short guy with short arms. the only way he can beat bigger guys is to get close and neutralize their size advantage. he does so by hugging and pounding the body. i admit, the earlier hatton was very entertaining, but now his clinching tactics have strained my willingness to defend him. i can understand he has to do what he has to do to win, but he doesnt have to clinch THAT much.

joe and floyd give excuses, ricky doesnt. joe and floyd choose to fight the way they fight, ricky doesnt really have a choice. but still, ricky could tone down the clinching, but its asking way too much of him to not clinch at all.
