In the rebroadcast of "De La Hoya/Mayweather" both Jim Lampley and Larry Merchant spent a half an hour talking about all possible angles of the fight, both before and after the replay. In the 90 minutes they were on air neither Lampley nor Merchant even mentioned the passing of Diego Corrales. Now I understand that De La Hoya/Mayweather was their "flagship fight" and they wanted to take as much time possible to talk about it.
However to me it just seems sad that they didn't even acknowledge Corrales' untimely passing. I realize Corrales was a "Showtime fighter" but it just really irked me that they couldn't take a few moments out of their time to talk about, or even mention Chico. Corrales was a guy who was just plain good for the sport, regardless of what network he was fighting for. He was a guy who always gave everything he had and never disappointed his fans.
He contributed so much to the sport and HBO couldn't even take a moment away from talking about their "mega fight" (which by the way was saddly uneventful) to honor a guy who gave everything to the sport they supposedly love. I'll take any of Corrales' career fights over the boring **** they charged $55 for anyday.
On a side note, both Wednesday Night Fights and Friday Night Fights had fitting tributes to Chico.
