It doesn't matter what the sport is, a team which is willing to do the bare minimum to win every time and not go the extra mile is not as popular as the team that tries to score the most points. Let's use hockey - which would you rather watch, a team with 15 wins and no losses in the season who have won every game on a shootout or a single goal, or a team who has 13 winns and two losses at the same point in the season but the wins have been 5-2, 4,1, 6-0 etc? To the average sports fan making average money nothing is a bigger turn-off than these guys making millions and living the childhood fantasy of almost everyone doing the bare minimum to ensure victory. Vince Carter once drew the ire of Toronto (when he played for the Craptors) by saying in an interview that he wasn't going to bother dunking any more, as a lay up does the same thing. Why should you care whether he scores points by dunking or lay up? Because it isn't about the points on the board it,s about the passion on the court. If you don't play your sport with passion you shouldn't be playing it.
