    Meaning that increasing the speed of the punch does more to increase the impact force than increasing the mass (or hardness) of the punch. That's what a tae Kwon Do guy will have you believe. In reality the amount of force that is produced by a punch is determined by the amount of mass that can be transferred from muscle power, bodyweight in motion and leverage.

    Speed helps the punch to land though.
    Makes sense also, its not the same getting hit by a metal hammer than a same size wooden hammer.

      theres 2 types of punchers with countless skill levels on each side...if you want to be a puncher bad enough you will be it.. it might even mean turning southpaw when your right handed or vise vera.. when punchers throw shots they feel thunder in their lats

        No, my school physics is a bit rusty, and it wasn't my best subject so forgive me if I'm wrong, but if my memory serves me correctly:
        force = mass X acceleration
        The formula you are describing is:
        kinetic energy = 0.5 X mass X velocity squared

        However, if I remember correctly, the important equation is momentum in which both mass and velocity are equally important (from a conceptual point of view):
        momentum = mass X velocity
        So, as you punch faster your punch is travelling with greater momentum, producing a greater impulse (change in momentum) of the opponent's head and can therefore be more effective.

          bull**** . if speed dosent increase power then how came a car that hits a wall at 100mph will do more damage than a truck that hits a wall at 10 mph.

What made people think he was going to put on a great performance when he comes in weighing like 148... I hate floyd, and he sucks and the rules should be stricter and not allow tiny guys to get in the ring with big guys. The tiny guy can get hurt, but floyd showed his speed by running.
            why don't go and get counseling for all your whining and bitching man. you are sad, and need to give the complaining a rest. go talk to someone if you want to compalin about the fight. jesus christ boy, you're pathetic.
