Roy Jones is better than DLH, but Trinidad sure as hell isn't. MOsely has his number in a way, but career wise it's still Oscar > Shane

I wouldnt say "best" but definently the figure that will define the mid to late 90's & early 00's just as guys like Tyson, Ali, Robinson, Marciano, Louis were the icons that represented boxing for their particular eras.

Then again, lots of people say Whitaker, Sturm and Quartey beat De La Hoya. How can people say this guy is the best of our generation when he lost 2 fights with no doubt and 5 others could've been losses (Mosley, Trinidad, Quartey, Sturm, Whitaker). He is good, but not the best.

Not sure when "our generation" officially starts, but I'd say Whitaker and Chavez were both incomparably better and Hopkins should also get the nod.

(If he wasn't a doper, I'd say RJJ too, but he doesn't count in my book...)

As someone else noted, though, De La Hoya is incredibly iconic and on top of his admirable qualities as a boxer will continue to strongly influence the sport for the foreseeable future through golden boy. He's really an amazing rarity - an incredible talent in the ring and a brilliant guy outside the ring. Perhaps even more so than Sugar Ray Leonard (not so talented as a boxer but likely even smarter).

I have always respected DLH because he's been a class guy and never ducked anyone. You can say what you want about him fighting guys past their prime but he fought, Quartey, Hernandez, Ruelas, Trinidad, Mosley, Vargas, Hopkins and now PBF ALL in their prime. Win or lose, he has to be considered as one of the best if not the best of our time.

He is one of the best without doubt, he never ducked anyone (apart from winky who calls him Oscar De' Avioder lmao)

He is certainly in the Mix, my opinion is that Mayweather cant be judged until he retires, which will be after this fight, just to prove people wrong,

Therefore discounting Mayweather, I would say Roy Jones is the best of this Generation just gone.

Oscar is definitely in the mix when it comes to the best of this generation, but I wouldn't say the best. As for popularity he probably is. No one has been as popular since the Mike Tyson days.

I think trinidad gets underrated for sure, if anyone takes a deep look at his resume. They would realize how good it is, tito is better than wilfredo gomez and benitez. Anyone that looks at resumes in an objective manner will tell you this.

Oscar De La Hoya should be considered as a top 50 of all times for sure. He has had alot of questionale decisions but guess what, it's cuz he takes the most big fights. I like pernell whitaker and am a big fan of his but, he only took on everybody at 135. He didnt fight the other champs at 140, he didnt fight terry norris at 154 and his fight with ike at 147 got cancelled due to his coke addiction. Pernell Whitaker ranks higher than oscar cuz he took more easy fights, i hate to say this but it's true.

Bernard Hopkins should not be considered as one of the primary candidates for the best of our generation. I honestly think it's between roy, lennox, oscar, tito, barrera and pacquaio

I think Mayweather is a harder fight than Winky if we are talking 154 Winky. If Oscar has to move up to 160 then its a different story.
