i think if the fight's a stinker it'll further boxing's slide and MMA will gain more ground.... this a marquee fight, that people(boxing fans) are talking about as the biggest fight ever(i disagree).... boxing will never die, but the gap between it and MMA is closing quickly and if this fight sucks(very possible) it won't help....

Whether its a good or bad fight, boxing needs to have more fights where both guys are big names. When the UFC has a sub-par show it's not so bad, another show will happen in about a month. Boxing only has 1-2 HUGE fights per year. So when a huge fight fails to deliver, fans know they will have to wait a long time to see the next one.

I feel if the fight is boring it will probably detour the fringe boxing fans from watching anymore, but for those who watch the sport know that there is more than just Oscar and Floyd. I feel no matter how the fight turns out unless it is a bad decision boxing will be ok and there will exciting and great fights in the future. They may not have the hype this fight is getting though.

Boxing Needs to Promote It's Stars

There are a lot of big fights this year, but the average person has never heard of the participants. For example, Wlad/Brewster II is a great matchup, and so is Hatton/Castillo, Hopkins/Wright, Taylor/Spinks and Pavlik/Miranda.

The promoters are not doing a satisfactory job of getting the message out to the public. There should be ads in magazines and newspapers, time on TV, and maybe even posters put up in big cities in order to create more interest. People need to become familiar with the boxers, then they'll want to see more of them.

This PBF/DLH fight is the only one in a few years that has been smartly promoted. Maybe more boxers should hire Golden Boy Promotions instead of Don King!

No, boxing will only take a hit if there is no clear cut winner. If a bull**** decision comes down or a draw.

I agree, I think a draw would be bad, but if it's a very close fight that can go either way, that would probably be the best-case scenario, or damn close anyways.

Think about it. There would almost definitely be a rematch, which means another huge hyped fight. The people who saw it the first time won't want to miss the rematch, and the the people who missed it the first time might want to see what all the hype was about. There will probably be arguments regarding the "real" winner, and controversy sells. I don't see how a very close fight with a toss up decision is BAD for boxing.

I agree with you, but how could they promote them better? There are boxing mags, but you can't force people to read them. When they have local cards here, its promoted in the local papers and stuff. They usually have commercials on cable TV for any upcoming PPV boxing. They have a good amount of boxing on TV, with ESPN's Wednesday Night Fights, Friday Night Fights, The Contender, and here in Texas they have boxing on a Spanish channel here on Fridays too.
I agree with you on Golden Boy Promotions. My instructor said they pay better and treat the fighters better than other big promotions.
