guy sounds tall, which means it should be tough on mesi... Unless this tall guy sucks as a boxer... Does anyone know anything about this guy mesi wants to fight? I usually consider mesi a joke fighter, but if this is a step up for him thats pretty good i guess -
The article suggests that this is a step up against a "live" opponent for Joe. This is not the step up I would have liked to see but a guess its a 'baby' step up (pun intended) from the type of competition he's been facing lately. Anyways, I like the fact that he's fighting very frequently(more so than any other name hw) and hope he gets some big fights later this year. I think he'd benefit from fighting any one of the hw prospects out there or a Calvin Brock, Evander Holyfield, Tye Fields, or even Luan Krasniqi.
Also, does anyone know anything about his opponent outside of boxrec? Seen this guy fight?Comment

TIM-BER!
I've seen him fight - and he can't. He'll either get knocked out or disqualified. I'd be shocked if it goes more than 5 rounds.Comment

Maybe Mesi is getting warmed up to face a tall opponent like Tye Fields. I saw Tye Fields fight on Versus a while back and he didn't look so good. He was a tall man, but you could tell he doesn't have very much amatuer experience. He did show a good workrate though. Mesi seems to be trying to get into good shape and by the end of the year face a tough opponent.Comment

I am working that fight too, I know Pedro, hell, I have announced nearly half of his fights. He tires badly, no stamina. I look for Mesi to win this with ease after the 3rd or 4th round.
It will be good to see my old friend Christy Martin again, she and I go way back, she's a great gal.....Comment

I just realized this; the article says that Mesi will be fighting for the vacant "WBC U.S." hw title. The WBC and the other alphabet titles all have 'variation' title belts like the "inter-continental," "European" "America's" etc., etc. The point is, fighters typically try to win lessor known variation belts in order to get ranked by the respective sanctioning body whose variation belt it belongs to. Recently, Shannon Briggs employed this tactic in order to get a high ranking without necessarily fighting the best opponents.
I guess my point is, that Mesi seems like he's going this route in his quest for a title shot but in doing so, is kind of alienating his fans because of the opponents he's facing and the lack of television exposure. I mean, HBO is sure as hell not going to buy this fight and I'm not sure any other networks are...Comment

I spoke with Joe recently and his said that he has 2 goals right now.
1. Get back in the top ten of any of the alphabets.
2. Get back to fighting in NY.
If he wins this fight I am sure that the WBC will rank him in the top ten again. He was the #1 contender before he got hurt and this should help him out.
He wants to fight those guys that you mentioned but no one would fight him. He is to big a risk for them for so little a reward. He is not sanctioned yet in NV, NJ or NY and that means less money for all of those involved.
A fight with Rahman or Holyfield is in the works if he can get back in NY.Comment
