    The Mayweather / Whitaker comparison

Just a question for the US fans really, you have two highly skilled fighters here who both are/were untouchable in their primes. It seems like Mayweather gets alot of hate for his defensive points building style,i remember Whitaker winning most of his fights in the same sort of manor,he never got in war's and just stuck to what he did best(as he should do).I get the impression that Whitaker gets great credit for his style and accomplishments and yet Mayweather gets hate. Two top class fighters who in my opinion will walk into the hall of fame with no problem but why the hate for one and not the other?

As a resident Whitaker nuthugger, i can tell you this is a ****ing lie. Whitaker was only humble early in his career, just like floyd. Whitaker got angry when he lost because he felt he got robbed all the time, which he did. Whitaker was in fights that werent even close and still got robbed and it created a bitter effect that resonated late into his career to his getting destroyed by tito trinidad. Whitaker was hated, deeply, he was in a division with alot of blood and guts warriors like Peaz and Chavez and he dominated them in a fashoin that was garnered alot of hate. If this was 1992 and this was some BBS we were all talking on, it would be Whitaker hate, not Floyd.

Floyd wont be loved until hes gone and we wish we had this big mouth and arrogant additude to excite or, or wish he get KO'ed etc. Just like whitaker, you all have him in your avatars, sigs and **** but alot of you werent there during the height of his reign to understand how hated he was by fans and the press alike.

thank you , and by the way whitaker was way better than pbf, has a better record thus far, and also it's not all about who is undefeated or not, a loss could give a fighter more credit than a win, a great champion has his day returns like a gladiator and gets his revenge and overcome that loss, not b*tch about.....guys like hearns, leonard, duran, haggler should be in the hall of fame by thenself and have a new hall of fame for this new generation seriously

Good post, obviously he's not hated now he's gone but i didnt think he was hated at the time.Although we in the UK only got delayed coverage of a few of his fights in the 90's so its hard to get the general feel of what the US public thought of him at the time.

Whitaker humble? hahahahahaha You guys must be teenagers or new boxing fans who weren't around in his prime. The only difference between Whitaker and PBF is that Mayweather hasn't been robbed of a decision yet. Honestly, if it was Whitaker fighting Jose Luis Castillo rather than PBF, Whitaker would have gotten robbed in that first fight...

Im sick of you people willing to agree with flatout lies because you cling to past fighters. Whitaker was almost never humble and it was worse when you lost.
