Joe Calzaghe July fight with Denis Inkin

The offers Warren are spreading around are meant for Taylor etc. to decline, so Calzaghe can fight another no hoper at home in front of 35.000 welsh, who don't care what tomato can he's beating up this week.Taylor and Kessler cant fight in July, but thats not a problem since Calzaghe hurt his hand...
WBO wouldn't demand Calzaghe to fight his mandatory if he fought Taylor or Kesslert...
They come up with two silly offers, and on the second day after his fight he starts talking about Inkin?? He's been talking about fame and reconition for so long, I really dont get it.Comment

If Kessler can make the same money, fighting anybody at home, how does he need Calzaghe? It's Calzaghe who's running out of time, legacy wise. Besides, since they're offering Taylor a **** deal as well, it would seem there's something else in play here
Edit: Other than that, I do agree Calzaghe is the man to beat at SMW.Comment

why am i not surprised? this Calzaghe is satisfied with Inkin? Inkin!!!! come on man. this title reign is a joke. as far as I'm concerned he is a paper champion.looks like joe may well fight Denis Inkin, linky http://icwales.icnetwork.co.uk/0700s...name_page.html
Notice on HBO when talking about future opponents, twice he left out kessler........ I wonder why.Comment

Well, legacy wise, he is soon to break Hops record(although the legitimacy of it is a whole different argument) and I dont see his legacy suffering much if he does not fight Kessler. He already had his signature win in Lacy, and frankly, if he beats Kessler, it will be just another "Robin Reid" type of win. I mean, you can hype up Kessler all you want and maybe he is indeed a great fighter, but right now he is not a bigger win for Blow than many other fighters that he beat.
And really, his legacy is really a matter of opinion, haters will always find a reason to put it down(and there are a lot of these) and huggers will always find a reason to bring it up(and there are a lot of reasons for this too)
Edit: by "you" I did not mean just you but Kessler fansComment

Don’t you think Calzaghe needs to prove his abilities hasn't faded, like his choice of opponents since the Lacy fight?
If he wants to make anything of his international legacy, he needs someone and it isn't Inkin.Comment

I do understand your point, but his abilities has nothing to do with his legacy which is strictly achievement based. I mean, if we follow your argument, than we have to nullify Ali's legacy based on his performance against Homes and Berbick.Comment

My point is that Calzaghe is needing a big fight soon, since he might only have one left in him. Whether it's Taylor, Hopkins or Kessler, he seems to be throwing peanuts at the. so they won't accept a fight. Dumb move at this end, because really, his only claim to fame is the Lacy win. Before that fight he was recognized as someone who only fought at home (which he still is), and someone who talked about fighting the best, but somehow the deals always fell through and he wound up fighting nobodies. Well, he has returned to that practice, and if he doesn't fight someone REAL next, then I think his legacy will suffer for it.Well, legacy wise, he is soon to break Hops record(although the legitimacy of it is a whole different argument) and I dont see his legacy suffering much if he does not fight Kessler. Kessler on the other hand, has a number of good years in him, and can happily wait for Calzaghe to die of old age, while fighting Beyer's and Andrade's at home (not that I want him to), making the same kind of money Calzaghe's offering him. At that price, why does he need Calzaghe?Comment

In no way do I justify Blow's choise of opponent though, in case he actually does have an alternative, but if he does not, Inkin is as good and maybe even better than Froch(although we should not really base our opinions based on thier amateur performances against each other.)Last edited by BrooklynBomber; 04-09-2007, 08:35 PM.Comment

You said it yourself, for legacy, because beating the best man at your weight sure as hell good for your legacy. That's what I mean though, Blow, legacywise, needs Kessler less than Kessler needs blow. And as I see it now, it is not really about money anymore, since legacy comes to play.My point is that Calzaghe is needing a big fight soon, since he might only have one left in him.
