Bare Knuckle fighting results in more superficial damage. Gloved fighting, brain damage.

Interesting subject though, a lot of mixed opinions.
One common theme here I'm sure of is that none of us would prefer to be hit with a bare fist as opposed to one cloaked in 16 ounces of foam.

Bare knuckle boxing looks more barbaric and is grapically more gory than gloved boxing; it's also a lot worse to be on the receiving end of a bare knuckle punch than it is to be on the receiving end of a gloved one, but I think it's just very deceptive in that the injuries would be mainly superficial. I guess both are brutal in their own ways. Maybe gloves could be made smaller, but if anything, they'll probably be made bigger.Comment

Fights would be stopped in seconds without gloves
The damage would be even worse then with gloves on..
Ricky hatton could never fight again lolComment

Well I'm not sure about that, but they certainly wouldn't last as long as the fights do in gloved boxing. From a safety standpoint, Amatuer boxing is obviously the safest. This subject doesn't seem to be talked about as much as it maybe should I think.Comment

There are too many variables in that argument. For example, the individual matters ALOT. Some fighter can take more punishment than others obviously. Also, some fighters are more prone to injury no matter how few or how many punches they recieve. I once talked to two nurosurgeons from Sweden on avacation I was on and we started to talk about boxing and the name Ingemmar Johansen came up. As we talked I asked them if Ali was going to be that way because of Parkinson's or if boxing influenced his condition at all. they told me without a doubt that Ali's condition was made 100 times worse by his boxing.
I don't think the equipment can hurt or help that much, it's more the responsibility of the commission and doctors to regulate a boxers health. MMA is safer because they take significantly less blows than does a boxer and no matter what you change it will always be that way because of the nature of boxing.
What they should do is check the fighter for simptoms on an individual basis, slurred speach, cuncuscions, K.O's ect. Also a big problem is proper identification of a fighter. Alot of fighters fight under false names depending what city or country they are in.
Bottom line we need a real commission of boxing that will regulate it nation wide and with the level of curruption and monopoly's that exist among promotors, I doubt it will happen soon.Comment

Actually that is not proven to be the case. In fact, headgear can make you more susceptible to brain damamge according to Dr. Margaret Goodman, the redhead doc you see at all the big fights.Comment

Was there any tests done on that, or is it just her personal opinion?''From a safety standpoint, Amatuer boxing is obviously the safest. This subject doesn't seem to be talked about as much as it maybe should I think.''
