That's pretty interesting. I've read that UFC or other MMAs are safer for the fighters brain in reasoning along those lines. I've also read that a lot of the problems with boxing is that they'll let a fighter keep going if she/he can beat the count from a head shot. For safety sake, a fighter should be stopped if they go down from a head shot. If they're allowed to keep fighting after they've been down, that's when a lot of the serious damage is done. Corrales is probably going to have a lot of problems later in life, if he doesn't already have some signs of punch drunk syndrome.

The only flaw I can see in this argument is the difference between the huge guys fighting now and the small guys of the older days. You can look at the NHL as an example. Derek Boogard fought Todd Fedoruk, I think, and completely shattered his face. He had to have his face surgically reconstructed and the next time he fought, he went down real easy. That was a bare knuckle fight and Fedoruk's face broke before Boogard's hand. I may have gotten the names of the players wrong, so if anyone is an NHL fan, please correct me.

agreed. they should do a stat count and see if he's been punched more times than any boxer in history. I think Holyfield might be close on that one.

its true. The introduction of bigger gloves is just going to lead to even more injury.

Great in theory, but I disagree with Lenny.

You don't get nasty facial fractures wearing big gloves.

Yah, it's a trade off. You trade one type of damage for another.

That's true, but the brain is more important.
