    Justice for boxers.

If the Olympics are supposed to be for amateurs how come the American Basket Ball stars are allowed in along with Tennis players Ice Hockey and football. This aside if this is the way things are going why can’t Pro boxers fight at the games, I feel if the rest of the worlds best sports stars are allowed in then surly Boxers should get a fair crack at the whip. Would this not be great, to see Mike Tyson blow away some Jap who hasn’t been in a ring before, or Roy Jones finally getting a gold medal that was robbed from him by seeing him cripple some South Korean. Anyone agree.

I dont agree, i think it helps rising stars get some recognition and popularity when going in the pro ranks with an olympic medal win, which can be helpful for an up and comer, rather then someone we all know and have seen already.

if thats the case then no pro what ever the sport should be allowed in the games, whether its tennis, basket ball soon base ball (americans trying to fix the games again) or football. They try and pass the event off as an amateur show it's a load of **** we all know its not and the boxing scoring and refing is so ****e it's unbelievable.

i agree with that...allowing pro basket players in is ridiculous. at least with soccer there are still a dozen or so different countries which can take the gold medal, but basketball?

i don't think pro boxers should be allowed in the olympics as events like this currently give amateurs the incentive to stay amateur and hone their skills before they join the pro ranks.

The games should be for amateurs only. Trying to pressure the Olympic ruling bodies to allow professionals in sports that only one nation really excels at is trying to buy more medals.

i dont think basketball is an issue....there are alot of nations who are better than the US....Argentina won the last gold medal with Italy taking silver.

Cuba won the gold in baseball and Canada won the gold in hockey..

i think the US need american football to be in the olympics.

The answer to this is simple.

Each sport has its own Olympic commitee, those separate commitees decide who will be allowed to compete, as far as professionals go.

The rest of the world determines this basically. For example, other counties started using pro athletes to compete in those sports LONG before the Americans decided to let thier Pros play.

At first I thought that would be awesome to see pro boxers in the Olympics because maybe we would see matchups that we wouldn't see otherwise, but I doubt there would be very many that would do it. First of all there would be no money involved and it would be a risk for each fighter. Plus it does give the younger fighters experience and exposure that they wouldn't normally get.
