I don't think that it's unjust to say that he's a very, very good fighter, however. He won fights on pure skill, something that the Foremans and such lacked. He was pure talent, though no skill.

Same thing with guys like Malignaggi. You gotta love the featherdustin' bastards.
he won fights on pure corruption.. Nothing BUT.. he was a boring negative fighter..

Some fights the guy was skilled it has to be said. Maybe 3 or 4 gifts I will give you. He was an accomplished amateur as well. The guy could fight.

Exactly. They can compensate. These guys have to be ahead at all times, and oftentimes against better-punching competition. They can't rely on scoring the KO, only points.

A few possible (and I stress possible) decisions for Ottke which were questionable make him universally hated? Whatever.

Well then I must have seen the 4 gift fights.. I could not understand why he was a champ.. Buddy seriouly I saw one fight where he landed 17 punches the whole fight and STILL won a UD.. there were consecutive rounds where he didn't even throw a punch ...

            Robin Reid.

I have seen worst champs in my time. He was good but it should be said he was losing the Mudine fight when he scored the kayo and I didn't think he could pull it out. Mudine being a novice former rugger speaks to Ottke being a lucky fighter. I just think he was an overacheiver imo.

The Larsen fight? Hardly a draw, man. He's boring, maybe. But don't let that tint your outlook on his skill and career.

Larsen was gassed after 2 rounds! And the judges STILL had the fight close. Mads had nothing left, so Ottke coasted the fight.

People actually think he defeated Robin Reid?

I saw that fight. It was a bad decision. I heard Glenn Johnson should have won his fight against Ottke (never saw that myself).

That could be it.. I watched a few of his fights when I 1st moved to England on Eurosport.. I didnt even know who he was..
And I thought No wonder Americans laugh at Euro Boxers if this what passes as a champ.. Of course I know better now.. But still I think OVERACHIEVER is a great word for him..
Maybe its true.. he is just misunderstood.. But Boxing is pretty easy to understand..

The Reid fight was a travesty of justice..
