ok, but when those fights were not available, what does he do? fights nobodies. lets just say for arguments sake that hes being ducked and that hes waiting in the wings for a shot at an american like hopkins or taylor; why, while hes waiting, would he fight sakio bika and manfredo jr, but not kessler?

Those fights have never been as likely to be made as they are now. Hopkins has been in the press saying that he wanted to stop Calzaghe breaking his defences record. Taylor has expressed an interest...that has never really happened to Calzaghe before. So lets wait until he announces his next fight after Manfredo. I hope it to be a big name or a competetive fight. I'll be just as disappointed as you if it isnt, but I'll not be cursing him or claiming that he's 'ducking' people. I'll just be disappointed with him.

Simple question - How would you compare Lacy/Kessler? and explain?

I certainly see a totally different kind of fighter, and yes I think Kessler has proved himself. I get that from watching both guys fight, not from hype. Lacy isn't a bad fighter, but Kessler is a level above.

I know Kessler hasn't earned the spot as Calzaghe's "most wanted", but Calzaghe can't fight anybody but Kessler, if he doesn't get his big US fight.. That's the spot he's in.
I hope Calzaghe is done with his warm-up bull**** after Manfredo..

Calzaghe has Eubank on his record list, but you have to prove yourself over and over again, and that was a long time ago..

You worry he wouldn't get anymore reconition fighting Kessler, than he did Lacy, but why should that matter to Joe? He picked Bika and Manfredo.

Its difficult to compare Lacy with anyone at the moment because he got tore to peices against Calzaghe which immediately made people doubt his ability (rather than crediting Calzaghe) and then he had an opportunity to change the doubters mind's, but he suffered a very painful and career-threatening injury. So you dont know how much was Calzaghe destroying a great fighter and neutralizing his thread simply because he was so much better, and how much was Lacy's over-hypedness being exposed.

What I did know about Lacy was that he was big and strong and had a great deal of power. That he was considered by many people who know boxing better than you or I to be favourite to beat Calzaghe, but that he hadnt been tested against people near Calzaghe's level.

What I know of Kessler is that he's big and strong and has good power, good footwork, good speed and a good chin (all of his attributes are good to very good, none of them appear to be exceptional from what I've seen of him). I know that he's highly ranked and many people are now considering him favourites to beat Calzaghe. His record is better than Lacy's, but yet again he has not faced anyone in his competetive career who had more than a below average chance of beating him before the fight begun. I rate him higher than Lacy at the moment, but I dont see anything that he has proven that suggests that he could live with Calzaghe.

I agree whole-heartedly with what you say here. But I think that its unfair that Calzaghe is being labelled a 'ducker' and isnt getting the respect he deserves. I'm sick of the 'warm up' fights or the 'fights for profile building'. I want to see him fight Hopkins, Taylor, Wright, Kessler, Dawson, Woods, Froch next in that order of preference. But if he fights ANY of them, I wont complain about him ducking any of the others.

look at how many americans on this board now rate kessler as a serious fighter, compared to how many rate manfredo as having a chance, so dont give me the "hes trying to make a name in america" spiel.
