Hasim Rahman looking for June 16 opponent

After a possible bout with Ray Mercer fell threw ( Mercer to fight mma Kimbo Slice), Rahman is looking for an opponent to headline a June 16 "Vs" card.

Several possible opponents come to mind such as, Evander Holyfield, Calvin Brock, Dom Guinn, or maybe even Tye Fields. But, in my mind, I think the perfect opponent and fan friendly fighter would be...."Baby" Joe Mesi!

This is a perfect opportunity for Joe Mesi to step up and put his undefeated record on the line against a quality fighter who's looking for a big win just as much as he is.

After fighting on "Vs" earlier this year Mesi, who looked pretty polished, stated that he wants to step up his competition and contend for a title sometime in the near future. IMO, it's time for Joe to make that step and put his career on the line.

    Thoughts/opinions?

Before I got into the thread I was thinking "Damn who could he fight" because while a seasoned pro I just don't see him getting over the hump again.I like Mesi as an ooponent tho and give him a good shot of winning due to his aggresive style....although he has no looked too great so far in his comeback.....I also don't really like Mesi but either way would find this an interesting fight.

Did you see Mesi's last fight?... I thought he looked pretty damn good, albeit against a tomato can fighter. I think a determined and hungry Joe Mesi can not only win this fight but also win some (needed)credability from the hw boxing world.

I'd be interested to see Rahman vs. Danny Williams. While I'd make Rahman the favourite, they only have (ISTR) one common opponent: Kali Meehan.

              Rahman Opponents

Personally, I would like Rahman to be Wladimir Klitschko's "stay active" opponent while he's waiting for a unification bout! This matchup would get a lot of attention and make a lot of money, and it would be a good name for Wlad to have on his list of wins. Rahman would probably want the title shot!

Sam Peter also needs a "stay active" opponent. Rahman would be a good, high-profile name to add to Peter's resume, and if Hasim won he would become the mandatory WBC heavyweight contender. But, this might be seen as too big of a risk by Peter.

There's a lot of heavyweights without scheduled fights that would be make interesting matchups for Rahman, such as Thompson, Lyakhovich, and Virchis. Hasim would also be the perfect test for rising stars like Chambers, Dimitrenko, or Povetkin.

rahman vs holfield II might be alright, it would be a good test as to where each fighter is. plus the first one ended real weird with that knot above rahman's eye....

Anorak, IMO the biggest problem with British hw's is that they don't seem to want to travel to the U.S. to fight any noteworthy opponents, save Mike Tyson. It seems like the circle of Britsh fighters (Harrison, Skelton, Williams, Sprott) are doomed to just fighting one another.

You know, every hw boxing fan would want to see Danny fight Brewster, Rahman, Briggs, etc. but it doesn't seem like it will happen.

Good post and good list, but do us a favor and get rid of TOS! The guy hasn't done anything of late and doesn't deserve his low ranking.
