He was offered first by Finkel and he quickly accepted. His title shot against Wlad evaporated when Maskaev won his WBC belt which Shelly took advantage of and decided to drop Briggs. They knew Oleg is the easier foe and the easier road to unification. They don't want to risk a potentially disastrous KO loss from Briggs.
Oh yeah, wasn't this fight rumored to be a co-main event with the Vitali-Oleg fight? I sure hope so

Looks like Briggs doesnt want none of Klitschko cause this fight is happening alomst 3 months from now, redicilous

Shannon Briggs is a tempory beltholder and Wladimir Klitschko is just another pampered *****. Sultan Ibragimov will punch both of them into retirement. Well, if he happens to be in the mood that is.

He'll need to be in better form than he was against Ray Austin, or he'll not be punching anyone out but himself.

What a momentum shift for Ibragimov! He went from a lackluster performance against Ray Austin, to an exciting victory over a journeyman at MSG, and now he'll be fighting in front of a partisan crowd in Moscow to contend for the WBO. Briggs can't be too thrilled about this fight location. However, the money must be the motivating factor here.

when you've lost to the guys briggs has and have stamina worst than an amatuer you do get afraid,,,,plus Im sure he's seen sultans other fights when he was in shape. you continue to stress just 1 fight with austin in which he was clearly not in shape

Be real friend, all Sultan has accomplished is getting a draw with Austin. Yeah that's right, Austin who was run over by Wlad in two rounds, using only his left hand. And you were saying? Punch Wlad out into retirement? Let's see if he can punch Briggs into retirement first before you ever dreamed of your boy beating Wlad.

Common dude stop making crap excuses for Sultan not looking impressive and not winning against Austin. These fighters are proffesionals, they should be training and in shape through out the year because this is where they earn their money, this is their life.

For these fighters going into their fights not in shape is just an excuse and inadmissible. That applies to all fighters.

I agree. it was ridiculous but its clear sultan is a much better fighter when hes at 220 lbs. watch him against austin where he's over 230,,,,,then watch him in his other fights where he's in shape at 220. hes a much better fighter. I doubt he'll come in heavy for briggs with a title on the line

same old story. everyone is using nothing but the austin fight to gauge sultan by. he knocked out al cole and lance whitaker who are both better than austin. he was ill prepared and not in shape for austin

lance whitaker straight up quit against sultan when the doctor said he could continue, austin is better than him without a doubt.. al cole-cruiserweight

i dont think 220 pound sultan can take a heavyweight shot, his performance against austin showed his footwork is shoddy and he cant get past a decent jab...

i know sultan is the better fighter, but stylewise briggs is all wrong... sultan needs to exchange to win and fight aggressive... he thrives on being the faster fighter... but briggs, though overblown, has faster hands and will be able to counter sultan IMO.... surely i wouldnt be surprised if sultan won the fight but he is not gonna blow briggs over and KO him early.. but briggs could very easily take sultan out with one good shot, and i cant believe that sultan wont give him ample opprutunity
