"They aren't showing me the respect you should show a world champion..."
WBO Heavyweight Champion Shannon Briggs has released the following statement in response to today's press release from mandatory challenger Sultan Ibragimov's camp: "I'm the Heavyweight Champion of the whole world, so it doesn't matter where I defend the title. As for running from Iggy, that's a joke! I'm from Brownsville, never ran and never will! I got nothing against Iggy but he's in way over his head and he's gonna get hurt. I hope this billionaire backer of his set Iggy up with a pension plan because on June 3, he's going to be looking for a new source of income. They aren't showing me the respect you should show a world champion and taking shots at me while I was suffering from pneumonia was classless. Then again Leon and Samson never did have any class." It was announced today that Briggs will defend against Ibragimov on June 2 in Moscow, Russia.Comment

you seem to be one of the guys that are putting too much credence in that austin fight and not seeing his other fights when he's lighter. have you seen him fight when he's in shape? he's a different fighter when he's around 220 lbs,,,,,,,,like a bigger version of jirov. he was wayy too heavy for austin over 230 and it clearly affected his performance. it was idiotic of him to come out of shape but it was what it was. even in good shape sultans defence lacks but he's still a much better fighter than briggs and as long as hes around 220 lbs he'll be too much for briggs. I cant wait for this fight becuase I know some people that are so confident of a briggs win are going to be shockedComment

Ofcourse he has his reason. Being told by Finkel for months that his supposed fight with Wlad is in the bag then all of a sudden he was dropped in favor of a shorter boxer with above average power in his punches (although skilled) in Calvin Brock.sultan tried to get brock and a couple other top dogs but they declined. if you should be getting on someone it should be briggs. he's the one that backed out. plus why the hell should sultan have fought a tougher guy when he knew he was fighting for a title next? that would be crazy. anyway,,,briggs only chance is to land something big early. sultan is vulnerable to straight rights so thats briggs chance. if briggs doesnt get him out early he loses badly. I like sultan in 7 rounds after a couple rough moments earlyComment

briggs pulled out to fight serge becuase he was in limbo as wlads team was trying to get a maskeav unifcation fightComment

have any of you seen sultan fight? he's barely above clubfighter statis. i mean i know this is the weakest hvwt division in history but sultan doesnt have half the skills of even peter.Comment

Who else is he going to fight if he was left hanging like that by Finkel and Wlad's team?
He was offered first by Finkel and he quickly accepted. His title shot against Wlad evaporated when Maskaev won his WBC belt which Shelly took advantage of and decided to drop Briggs. They knew Oleg is the easier foe and the easier road to unification. They don't want to risk a potentially disastrous KO loss from Briggs.Comment
