I would seriously ask him what happended in that fight though, just frame it right.

2 weeks ago in Carson, CA at Vasquez v. Marquez I was bull****tin with Mike Anchondo and the first thing I asked him was why he quit in the fifth against Barrios.

He was a bit surpised at the direct question but by the time we were thru talking he voluntarily gave me his personal cell phone number.

So what was Mike's answer? I would think perhaps one day I and Smoke will talk about more specifics of his fights. Over Summer is a good bet.

His immediate reply was "man you hit hard"

He then went onto say that was one night in his enitre career and he shouldnt be judged off of that night. He eluded to some personal problems that have been squared away, he did not elaborate on them and I did not push.

He also said he quit drinking.

Pretty cliche answer for a fighter but he is right it was one night and all fighters deserve a second chance, now if he repeats his Barrios performance I dont give a **** how nice a guy he is there probably wont be a third one.

So you think he had drinking issues leading to the fight and that was a result of some personal drama perhaps? I wouldn't dismis it.

Fans are more often than not quick to judge a fighter based on one fight.

            That what it sounded like.

Plus going into the Barrios fight Anchondo was one of the upper tier prospects, I really like the kid as a fighter.

I was in a literal state of shock in regards to how bad he looked against Barrios, that was not the mighty mike that I had grown accustom to watching, granted Barrios was a huge step up in class.

Fans do need to be careful when they make a judgement your right, Mike has got a fight coming up in a couple months on ESPN which he was gleeming from ear to ear about. I have not written him off thats for sure.
