    Paths to the HOF

    Here's the deal...

I list several fighters and my opinion as to whether they have already had hall of fame careers, or what they (possibly) need to do to get there. You all critique and offer more insight.

Shane Mosley - Beat any champion at 147.

Oscar De La Hoya - Already in.

Juan Manuel Marquez - Beat Barrera and win a rematch with Pacquiao.

Marco Antonio Barrera - Already in.

Manny Pacquiao - Probably already in without major setbacks.

Jermain Taylor - Beat Wright in a rematch, beat Calzaghe at 168, or make a lot of defenses at 160.

Wlad Klitschko - Unify against Valuev/Briggs/etc, make several more defenses of his title(s).

    James Toney - Already in.

Virgil Hill - Beat Maske in the rematch.

Rafael Marquez - I think he already has the credentials, but he could lock it up if he beats Vazquez again and unifies.

    Floyd Mayweather - Already in.

Joe Calzaghe - Take down Manfredo as he should, beat Kessler/Taylor/whoever. He already has a case though.

Ricky Hatton - Beat Castillo, unify against Witter/M'Baye or whoever, make some other defenses.

Miguel Cotto - Beat Judah and then another big name or two at 147, make some other defenses, go up to 154 and win a title there.

Joel Casamayor - Beat the winner of Diaz/Freitas or go after Julio Diaz, defend title(s) a couple of times.

Winky Wright - Beat Bernard Hopkins or JT in a rematch...already has a case though.

    Bernard Hopkins - Already in.

    Roy Jones - Already in.

Vic Darchinyan - Beat Jorge Arce, make some defenses, go up and beat some good bantams or even Rafael Marquez.

Edison Miranda - Beat Kelly Pavlik, Jermain Taylor, Abraham in a rematch, move up to 168 and win a world championship there, defend that title.

Jose Luis Castillo - Beat Ricky Hatton, make a defense or two.

    Ivan Calderon - Never lose...

    Erik Morales - Already in.

Jorge Arce - Beat Darchinyan and a couple of others.

Mikkel Kessler - Beat Andrade, Calzaghe, and some others...then go up to 175 and win a world championship there and defend it.

Feel free to add to and tear apart what I said.

        Mosley - Already in.

        DLH - Already in.

JMM - Close. Needs one or 2 more big wins. Needs to fight Pacquiao again.

        MAB - Already in.

Pacquiao - Probably already in, but I think one more big win puts him there in my book; maybe the rematch with JMM?

JT - Needs to keep defending his title against the best out there as he has been doing, but needs to start to win convincingly; hell even a loss against a great fighter will be good for him if he make the fight memorable. Needs to step it up.

Wlad - Needs to establish himself as THE Heavyweight champ and remain so for the rest of the decade.

        Toney - Already in.

        Virgil Hill - Already in.

Rafael Marquez - Boderliner, one or two more big wins seals it.

        Floyd - Already in.

Calzaghe - Fights in the US against the top guys (Wright, Kessler, Taylor); fight Forch in England. Is a borderliner right now.

Hatton - Beat Castillo in a memorable fight; fight one or more of the top Welters out there (Cotto, Floyd) and win or lose competitively. Borderliner, right now.

Cotto - Continue to win. Defend his title against the top guys in the division.

Casamayor - I think he's already in, if you count his Amateur/Olympic career. As far as his pro career, needs a couple of big wins against the top dogs to seal it.

        Winky - Already in.

        B-Hop - In.

        RJJ - In.

Vic D - TOO early. Needs to defend his title and continue to win in spectacular fashion. Is on the right path.

Miranda - Same as Darchinyan. Rematch Abraham and even the score; make it a memorable trilogy.

JLC - Already in. Maybe one more big win to seal it.

Calderon - Needs to continue doing what he is doing. Maybe a move up in weight and beating one of the top guys or staying at Minimum and unifying.

        Morales - In.

Arce - Close. Needs a couple more big wins and a war against Vic D. Walking up the Halls porch, but has yet to knock on the door.

Kessler - Fight in the US. Beat Joe C and unify the division. Move up or down and fight some of the guys in those divisions. Too early.

Gringo, your way off with Mosley, Pac and Rafael Marquez. Just look at what you wrote about Mosley and the other 2 and think for a second.

Shane Mosley-Probadly already a given for the HOF.Especially with the two De La Hoya wins.Just needs to keep winning..

Oscar De La Hoya-Already a HOF fighter.Fought the absolute best, and beat most of them.A Mayweather win would obviously be huge!!

JMM-Very close, but not quite..Needs to beat Barrera to seal his legacy.

MAB-Win,lose,or draw against Marquez,he's already in there. His victories over Morales,NAZ,ETC sealed the deal.

Manny Pacquiao-Hopefully doesn't retire prematurely..But there's no denying that he's already done enough.May turn out to be a "true" great.

Jermain Taylor-Quite a way's to go..Needs to start winning convincingly..

Wlad Klitschko-Needs to keep winning, and establish himself as "linear" champ.

James Toney-Already in HOF..Should consider retirement soon.

Virgil Hill-Close,but I don't consider him HOF material. It's probadly too late to change that now.

Rafael Marquez-Not yet,but he's definetly on his way.Just needs to continue fighting the best.

Floyd Mayweather-Already HOF material..But someday may be considered even greater than that.Needs to stick around though.

Joe Calzaghe-Already a given IMO..Should fighter better comp though..

Ricky Hatton-Probadly will make it if he retires undefeated.Needs more names on his resume though to get proper respect.

Miguel Cotto-Way too early to say..He does great against fellow prospects, but needs to be tested.

Joel Casamayor-Borderline HOF fighter..Underrated by most..

              Winky Wright-Probadly already there..But it's debatable..

Bernard Hopkins-His legacy is sealed..A true ATG..

              Roy Jones-See statement above...

Vic Darchinyan-Maybe someday, certainly not yet.Needs to move up in weight and fight bigger names.

Edison Miranda-Tough,hard-hitting prospect..We'll see what happens.

JLC-Tough call, maybe or maybe not.A few more impressive wins should do it.

Ivan Calderon-Has the skills to do so.Just keep winning...

Erik Morales-Undoubtably already there, and rightfully so..

With Shane I HAD "probably already in" behind what I wrote. I dunno what ahppened to that.

Doesn't it seem like there are a lot of guys there who seem to be going to the HOF by our standards?

                Thanks for feedback fellers.

The Boxing HOF has pretty low standards already, we're just predicting if these guys are going based on how Canastota has voted in the past and recent years.

I think Casa could already be a choice, and Hill. I think they had long careers with enough titles and/or names to deserve a nod. I think Calzaghe needs some work. Lacy was not enough. His defenses were not very stellar. beating Taylor or some other big timers around his weight (Miranda, Dawson, Woods) would help.

I would say Tarver as an opponent for him but who knows what he has left after the Hops fight.
