Cotto is a very solid fighter...but I'm a bit unsure why this poll has him beating almost every legitimate weltweight out there. What have others seen in his last few fights that make him so imposing? I've seen skill, but also flaws- and some mental weaknesses. Cotto is very good but his last few fights have been against people who shouldn't have beat him.

Branco - do we remember this guy? Never heard much of his before or since, honestly.

Malignaggi...no one gave him a shot in hell. Sure, he put up a fight...but to whose credit is that?

Urkal. We're giving Cotto Welterweight credentials for this effort?

Cotto is moving up to 147 and I haven't seen him show with his temperament in a fight, coupled with his chin, he can really use his skills to clean out the division. I'm still not sold that he can take Zab. Sure, he has a good shot, but I'm not sold he'll dominate or anything.

Why are we all saying Cotto can whoop ass at 147? Quintana? I mean...other than that he's been a jr. welterweight fighter. Let's measure him a bit more before saying he'll wipe the division.

1st bolded - Cotto has always been very composed in every one of his fights before the Urkal bout. The fact that he was headbutted about 400 times (even a friend of mine who hardly watches boxing could see it) had something to do with him losing his temper.

2nd bolded - I agree. Everyone needs more information on him before deciding that he could clear out the division. I have been saying he's going to be special for a long time, so I'll still contend that he's capable of such a feat in one fashion or another, but he still needs to show well against a big name opponent before we crown him.

I say he beats everyone except Mayweather. Mosley I see as a 50/50 giving a very slight edge to Cotto. Prime Mosley would definitely beat Cotto in my opinion. All these fighters could beat Cotto any given night; but my money would be on Cotto, except against PBF.

I should also say I'm pretty stunned at some of these numbers.

If Shane was not an amazing human being, Collazo would have had him.

Collazo is way too good for the current 83%+ of people to assume Miguel would be able to handle him.

I'm also personally surprised at the number of people who think Cotto would defeat Hatton. At 147 I guess Hatton looked lacking in strength, and Miguel has looked utterly powerful... That seems semi-plausible.
But I still believe Hatton is being underestimated here.

All in all the people who have voted thus far are saying in the majority that Miguel Cotto could INDEED defeat EVERYONE in the division or just outside, besides Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather.. Very interesting.

The way I see it, There are 3 fights that I would consider dangerus for Cotto out of the list, PBF, SSM and Zab. I think that Cotto will get the win againt Zab, but I am not putting any money on this, I like Zab a lot, his is fast and packs a punch. SSM is one of my all time favorites, and I think this would be a good fight. PBF is just to fast for Cotto, we would have to see how PBF would handle the pressure and strengh from Cotto.

Now on to the names I think Cotto would prevaile without too much problem, I will just name a few.

Margarito, wide punches, and pretty slow. Cotto will get on the inside faily easy and the fight is over.

Hatton, look at his last fight, got hit with a good body shot (Cottos specialty), and started clinching for the rest of the fight. I like Hatton, but I like Cotto a lot better.

Collazo, does not have the pop to stop Cotto coming for him. Cottos agression on this fight alone would win it for him.

Those are my thought for now, let me know what you think.

I agree with some of what you have said.

Let's see how much "pop" it takes to move Miguel:
