Yeah, I'm quite interested in following Povetkin's progress. He's done nicely up to now, got some names on his record. The fight against Bostice was probably his best so far. I'm not convinced he'll be as successful as many people think however. I don't think he'll dominate the division, that's for sure. He seems a bit open defense wise and isn't all that big compared to many guys out there. All in all, so far, so good though and he's a decent bet to win a title, given there's four of them out there.

I am fairly interested. I was much more interested when I had just read about him and hadn't seen him yet though. He at this point in his career has no jab or defense. He has plenty of time to rectify this and obviously has some talents to work with, so I'm fairly interested.

JD, I've resurected this thread because IMO Povetkin is the most exciting up-and-coming European fighter out there. IMO, his brawling style and aggressiveness would be enough to destroy Dimitrenko.

Yes, Povetkin seems stronger and more aggressive. And like Dimitrenko, he's ready to fight contenders (despite having only 11 pro fights he had a long and amazingly successful amateur career, so he's had enough experience to step up).

There is talk about him fighting Danny Williams next, should be a very good and very dangerous fight for Povetkin.

He'd be an ideal opponent for Povetkin, I hope it happens! Povetkin's manager Vladimir Hrunov says that he's trying to get Williams as Povetkin's opponent on the May 5 card in Germany, and if Williams agrees, there will be an announcement tomorrow (Monday).

Alexander Povetkin won a Gold Medal in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Some Olympic Gold Medal Winners:

                1960: Cassius Clay
                1964: Joe Frazier
                1968: George Foreman
                1988: Lennox Lewis
                1996: Wladimir Klitschko
                2004: Alexander Povetkin
