I dunno what surprises me more... the fact that it's now possible to have a conversation about The Blow and people to take him seriously on this board, or the fact that people know who I mean by "The Blow".

I think thats a rather interesting point that you bring up there. The couple of times that Calzaghe has been legitimately tagged, he has responded by showing this incredible ability to go for a round of two throwing ridiculous amounts of punches and taking plenty in return en route to knocking his opponent out when a few of those punches connect, start accumulating and get him out of trouble.
Now, everyone has always said that this is the dangerous side of Calzaghe's game. That his pride gets in the way and he goes on the attack and neglects his defense. But so far nobody has proven that they can take Calzaghe's shots and give better in return, which is why everytime he's opened up like that, he's got the better of his opponent before too long at all.
It could be argued that this innate ability to just unleash, let loose and take a few shots to land better ones is actually an incredibly potent weapon. Afterall, considering how fast, how solid Calzaghe's chin has seemed to be and how powerful he is...how do you defend against it? We saw in Benn's career how effective such a style was and Calzaghe does have the exact same style in his arsenal.
People often talk about Calzaghe's first defeat coming when he goes into the ring against a precise puncher or a big hitter (which they shouldnt really, because for all his decline, Eubank was still bloody precise...and for all the hype Lacy was still a damn heavy hitter), but it seems to me that unless you knock Calzaghe clean out (which may be very difficult cos he took a HUGE punch for his second ever knockdown and got up relatively unphased), knocking him down is only going to bring even more back at you than you were getting in the first place.Comment

Can you confirm which KD you're referring to, brother?Comment

You thought that was a monster KD? I thought the first ever one was worse, which is I questioned you. I've only seen the Salam one once though.
That was classic with the Mitchell one... even though the stoppage was iffy, The Blow's just been decked heavily then gets up to take several flush body shots. The next second - ****! Down you go, isn't it, boyo?Comment

The Welsh piss flap that be Joe Blow would spank Miranda! Im not a big Calzaghie fan - I rooted for Lacy. But the guy can fight, He would Punish PanteraComment

From what I recall it was a huge punch from Salem that caught Calzaghe absolutely flush. The fight isnt on youtube, so I've probably only seen the punch two or three times in my life, so I might not be remembering it 100%. But I do recall the commentators on the fight saying something about hitting Calzaghe too well because he dropped him so directly that Salem missed with another big punch coming behind it that otherwise would've smashed Calzaghe if he'd just stumbled from the first one... that was the gist of it from what I remember anyway. Either way, Calzaghe got up from both and back into his fighting rather comfortably indeed. You thought that was a monster KD? I thought the first ever one was worse, which is I questioned you.
