    You're welcome

The referee maybe should have stopped the fight but from his bantage point he could tell that Earl wasn't in a particular amount of trouble, and his opinion was justified seconds later when Earl knocked Katsidis on his arse. Of course the ref took quite a risk in letting the fight continue because if Earl had been seriously hurt then there would be questions asked about his fitness as a referee. I think he did the fighter a favour in this instance. Mickey Vann is an experienced referee and a big figure in British boxing. Just as soccer referee Pierluigi Collina's experience and ability allows him to take liberties with his role, Mickey Vann did the same thing in Earl vs Katsidis.

If this fight had of taken place in Vegas a US ref would have stopped the fight. Mickey Van was doing everything except throw punches to help Earl win the fight.

I saw the ref throw the towel out of the ring in one of Hopkins early fights. It seems kind of ****** to me. Only the ref can stop the fight, but if some fighter is way out of it, and the corner wants it stopped, the ref should do them that favour.

I agree. This fight went on too long.

Yeah I watched this and whilst only the Ref can stop the fight, the corner are there to represent the fighter when he's not in much of a position to make the decision himself.

And from watchin the whole fight, Vann was horrendously biased towards Earl, giving him precious seconds after knockdowns to recover, cautoning Katsidis for non-existant low blows - I mean this guy is a go to guy for Warren, as a scorer and a ref.

I really liked Katsidis though, he's got some nice aggression and power, good stamina - question marks over his chin though.

Refs dont stop fights if "the towel" is thrown in. This is incase a member of the audience decides it would be fun to throw a towel of their own in the ring. If a corner wants the fight stopped, they get in the ring and tell the ref that they are stopping the fight.

Yep only the ref can stop the fight because that towel could have been thrown by a spectator in the crowd. The ref thought Earl was still defending himself and throwing punches back at katsidis. Earl might have been eating leather but he was ok in the opinion of the ref. So that is why he threw the towel away.

Yes, but if the corner wants the fight stopped then it will happen. Whether its because the corner jumped up onto the apron and the referee disqualifies them or whatever.

If its my boy fighting in there and Im in the corner watching him take the beating of his life I will stop it one way or the other.................Rockin'
