BostonGuy is right, the heavyweight division has actually been improving. It was at a low point a couple of years ago, but it's now becoming very competitive again. Ruiz and Valuev have no titles now, and two other sub-par titleholders (Briggs and Maskaev) will soon be defeated and replaced.
Sanders is back in action because he has money problems. Lewis is not returning. Tua and Brewster are still in their early-to-mid thirties, and Brewster never really retired. Holyfield loves the sport like Foreman did and would come back regardless of whether it was good or bad.
There are a number of excellent young European heavyweights, such as Povetkin and Boytsov. There are plenty of capable contenders and titleholders, such as Peter, Brewster, Wlad, Vitali, and Chagaev. And we have some great fights to look forward to: Peter vs. Vitali and Wlad vs. Brewster.
but unlike King Kong, he wont be knocked off his perch any time soon.
I predict:
Wlad Klitschko will retire with no further losses to his record.
Mark my words, kids.
Torino, it all depends on how many title defenses Wlad wants to rack up before he retires. I'm hoping that Wlad stays for another 5 + years and gives us some entertaining fights, win or lose. I guess this begs the question, how much longer will Wlad stick around? Does anyone have inclining?...
Looking at the state of the current HW division I can see why so many fighters are returning, There was a rumour Lewis was returning, Vitali Klitschko and Corrie Sanders have returned, David Tua, Michael Moorer, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Morrison, Joe Mesi, so many of these have came back maybe they thought its a weak division thats why they came back, At the moment the top 3 HW's in my opinion are Wlad, Peter and Valuev...Thompson is alright, Briggs needs to improve his performance and i think he will when he kicks Ibi's ass.
Lewis - Said he will never return. Case closed V. Klistchko - Retired due to injury, now is trying to continue Moorer - Also retired in '97 then came back in 2000. What does that mean? Nothing.. every boxer is looking for another payday Holyfield - Never Retired. And as long as people keep buying his PPVs, he will keep fighting Morrison - Retired? or dismissed... for a decade he was waiting to get his clean bill of health and when that happens, I don't call it a return out of a retirement Mesi - Same as Morrison
