Looking at the state of the current HW division I can see why so many fighters are returning, There was a rumour Lewis was returning, Vitali Klitschko and Corrie Sanders have returned, David Tua, Michael Moorer, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Morrison, Joe Mesi, so many of these have came back maybe they thought its a weak division thats why they came back, At the moment the top 3 HW's in my opinion are Wlad, Peter and Valuev...Thompson is alright, Briggs needs to improve his performance and i think he will when he kicks Ibi's ass.
So Many Heavyweights Returning because the HW Division Sucks

Rocky Balboa anyone?
There was an article I read yesterday about Larry Holmes returning again, it was a joke but the writer had the same thoughts as you did. -
briggs will lose in his 1st defense,, if he ever recovers from his terminal illness. mark my words. youre welcome to bring this thread up and throw it back in my face if I turn out to be wrongLooking at the state of the current HW division I can see why so many fighters are returning, There was a rumour Lewis was returning, Vitali Klitschko and Corrie Sanders have returned, David Tua, Michael Moorer, Evander Holyfield, Tommy Morrison, Joe Mesi, so many of these have came back maybe they thought its a weak division thats why they came back, At the moment the top 3 HW's in my opinion are Wlad, Peter and Valuev...Thompson is alright, Briggs needs to improve his performance and i think he will when he kicks Ibi's ass.Comment

look the division is definately sub-par
but it is not bad enough that any of those guys will ever win a significant match, with the exception of vitali of course....
sanders, holyfield, tua, moorer, morrison will never break into the top-15, i would stake my lifes savings on it
mesi has a shot i guess cause he still has a spotless record and hes a white boy if he keeps winning matches and beats one decent opponent he could find himself with a title shot...
tua.. hell no holyfield.... lol sanders.... fat ass moorer... fat ass morrison ... cant fight two full rounds
alexander povetkin would beat all these guys right nowComment

Let me first say that the hw division is slowly returning and is much better than it was a couple of years ago when Byrd and Ruiz were champions..
That aside, I think that the addition of these former world champions and contenders helps 'deepen the talent pool' as well as giving fans the opportunity to see some of their favorite fighters from yester-year whether they perform good or bad.
I'm enjoying watching Holyfield beat up some tomato cans and look forward to seeing if Tua, V. Klitshko, Sanders, or Morrison can make anything of there comebacks. I'm also hoping that Joe Mesi will step up his competition and show fans that he belongs in the top ranks of the divsion. 2007 is not a bad time to be a hw fan....Comment

Before his injury he had beaten some decent competition and was on his way to some bigger fights but, you're right that he hasn't beaten anyone of late and hasn't proven that he could compete with the fighters you mentioned. I don't know what's going on with Mesi now, but I suspect he's in talks to fight someone remotely decent in his next fight. We'll have to wait and see...Comment
