How To IMPROVE BOXING of Today?

What do you think PROMOTERS, MANAGERs, MATCHMAKERS, SANCTIONING BODY's, THE MEDIA, etc., could do to help revive boxing.

Cause as we all know, it isnt only the in-ring action and "lack-luster" heavyweight division that is bringing boxing down.

Build more boxing gyms. It will never get as big as basketball or anything due to its brutality. Most want to play basketball, or football.

When 2 brawler fighters are gonna meet do what DLH and Mayweather are doing right now.

More fights on TV, less on PPV.

No point at building more Gyms. If boxing was a popular life-style, they wouldn't have closed in the first place.

After WWII, lots of boxing gyms closed. People were tired of War, the economy grew, thus allowing for more jobs, better jobs. The G.I. bill allowed people to go to College; get an education and you don't have to have your head beaten in. Education changed life for many.

I even heard NFL Football players say that they want their kids to play Baseball or Basketball, not Football, because Football is to brutal for the body; money is also better in those sports.

*You want to FIX boxing, make it more brutal.
Go to 4-6oz gloves for anybody under 200 pounds. 6-8oz gloves (like the olden days) for Heavyweights.

No more Cup protection that covers your mid-section. If I can't see your belly-button, you better have another cup protection because you are not wearing that one.

Yellow Cards for Warnings when there is no action. If you are not throwing or just hugging it out, Yellow Card will warn you. Yellow Card = If you don't start fighting, you don't get paid/no sleeping on the job.

Promoters, Managers, Politics, etc. they all ruin boxing.

Oh, ALI DESTROYED BOXING AS WELL. People complain about Tyson, but Tyson isn't walking around looking like a Zombie. The most popular athlete in the world can barely talk. Boy, that is the sport I want to go into.

Just get rid of the PPV...
Boxing would be much better without it...
Oh and boxing will always be corrupt so there's no need for a huge discussion about that...
        It's never gonna change...

Well, after WWII a lot of gyms closed not only because of education and economy. There was a withering talent pool in the 60's. Great champs like marciano and Robinson and Graziano werent there anymore.

The people who were struggling to get out of the ****** didnt have any boxing heroes to look up to.

And ALI did NOT destory boxing. Everything but. Kids look at what he did and they want nothing more then what he had. They see him now and they see the stats. Guys like Willie Pep and Carmen Basilio died very old, and very healthy.

They feel bad for ali, but its not discouraging anybody to box. they see what he did in the ring, what a profound impact he had, not only to the sport, but to the world

Considering the better part of PRIMO CARNERAS first 80 fights were complete fixes, id say the currupt part of the game has improved by HUGE leaps and bounds.

Whos to say it wont continue improving?

Don Kind insnt falsifying records anymore, making up wins on a guys record that never happened. Not ONLY his fighters take the cake, although something was fishy in LEWIS-HOLYFIELD...

somebody needs to assassinate don king. that will end most of the problems in the heavyweight division. even if there was another don king type guy, i can't see anybody being worse.

doing away with ppv cards sounds nice. i'm on the fence about it. all i know is that with $30-50 US, there should be a solid 6 hours worth of boxing action. they never even show undercards on ppv's. wtf is up with that?

more televised boxing. especially on national tv stations like nbc, cbs, and abc.

more televised boxing period. and with less one sided fights like those ******* at fox sports do. they can't even get real boxing commentator's or analysists.

Yeah many consider Ali a hero for blacks, and one of the greatest human beings. I know some who more than anyone else still living would want to meet Muhammad Ali. He's the most well known fighter ever IMO.

I think making the sport more brutal would result in many less boxers.

                    "Withering Talent", but why?
The Talent is always out there, but those that normally would choose boxing to get out, didn't need to anymore.

Ex: Take the ***ish fighters prior to WWII. ***s really aren't the first people you think of as people that want to fight back. Like Jackie Mason said on Duke it Out, "***s don't Fight, we Sue."
***s made up a good portion of the fighters fighting prior to WWII. They fought, took the money, and guess what most did? They retired early, and went to College. That was the purpose: to get money for College.
This is also why a lot of ***ish boxers were more known for their savy in the ring. The "Science" of boxing was "To hit, and not get hit."
Ask yourself now, How come there are so few ***ish boxers today?

The people who were struggling to get out of the ****** didnt have any boxing heroes to look up to.
So the very first had heroes? No, they fought because they needed "Milk"

And ALI did NOT destory boxing. Everything but. Kids look at what he did and they want nothing more then what he had. They see him now and they see the stats. Guys like Willie Pep and Carmen Basilio died very old, and very healthy.
He didn't "destroy" boxing, but it does hurt seeing the "Greatest" in such a bad state. It's like the Football players that meet their Idol and see him limping around, dropping pain killers like tic-tacs.

They feel bad for ali, but its not discouraging anybody to box. they see what he did in the ring, what a profound impact he had, not only to the sport, but to the world
You would think with Ali's name then that more people would be boxing.

The fact is, there are more Options today to make money.

Music and Acting are other "Dream Jobs" that can earn you Millions. If you can get to the top, then a pot of Gold awaits. And at least in Music and Acting you can make it and not be talented. In boxing, there is no faking it.

In America you can become Rich so many ways. No need for boxing.
