what do you define as sport and Is boxing a sport ?

I used to get in arguments with a friend of mine over this topic all the time . He was on the side that says that boxing is just two people beating eachother up, while I of of course always stuck up for it.
    I categorize 'sports' as such.
    1. You score points.
    2. You must physically and mentally train yourself.
    3. There is a chance of physical harm.
Right now the media has ran out of new ideas and has been passing everything in sight off as a sport .
    1. Spelling bee
    2. Poker
    3. Bowling
    4. dancing
    5. cooking
    6. Golf
All of these can be seen on Espam on any given day but I do not feel that any of them are sports . They are games and or skills but not sports .
What do you define a sport as ?

I think just about anything where two or more people compete can be classified as one.

I hear a sport requires DEFENSE. If the thing your doing doesn't require defense, it isn't a sport. Try narrowing it down even more with the list you got that don't make the sports list and try to say boxing isnt' a sport.

I think running, biking, and swimming are sports though . Nascar on the other hand NO .

A sport is an athletic competition. Boxing is a sport. When people say boxing isn't a sport what they're trying to say is it isn't fun and games, unlike most sports.

Some entertaining competitions are grouped with sports for convenience but aren't really sports (Nascar, poker, chess, etc.)

Nah that's not the way he men't it. His point was that someone like Butterbean is not a athlete and thinks that anyone who can take a punch and has a little training can be a boxer, I guess. Even though i'm sure Butter is a hell of a lot more of a athlete then he looks .

I dont see how anyone can say boxing is not a sport. Any true fan knows that its more than two people hitting eachother.
