in a street fight or an mma fight, the fighter almost will always win...in a boxing match, the boxer wins! plain and simple!

Boxing requires a more specialized skillset but the UFC fighters are much more well rounded in what they have to work with and what they have to deal with. I'd put my money on the MMA guys, particulary Pride contestants, in a street fight over the boxers. The boxer can win if he lands a punch early but once the MMA gets his hands on the boxer, it's as good as over.

To address the main point:

Show him some highly competitive WARS and if he's not into them he'll probably never be a boxing fan. In that case, just move on and accept it.

You really can't convince your friend. He is an MMA fan. Once someone is a fan of something, they think it's better than anything else. I had a friend who used to wrestle and said that no matter if you did Karate or boxed, wrestling was the best. He really thought wrestling could beat any other form of fighting.
