Wasn't Freitas retired? I guess I missed his return headline.
Acelino Frietas will face Juan Diaz April 28th

Diaz doesn't need power to win fights, so why should his power matter if he moves up?Hatton is all wrong for Diaz. Diaz is a pressure fighter with a high workrate, but his power is mediocre at lightweight. He'd be pretty much overpowered by Hatton. Diaz can still make Lightweight and still has good challenges at lightweight. He really needs to become the number 1 Lightweight in the world before he thinks of moving up.Comment

It doesn't matter against slick boxer types, or even straight out sluggers. However Juan Diaz is a straight up pressure fighter with great workrate and volume. However Hatton is another pressure fighter who is both stronger and more powerful and his heavier punches will take their toll against Diaz. Diaz would be overwhelmed. It just isn't stylistically good for him.
A pressure fighter with power will nearly always beat a pressure fighter with below average power.Comment

Power isn't the only factor. Speed can beat power. Defense can beat power. You have to take into account the total package. If Diaz were to move up to 140, the most important factor I would be looking at is his stamina. If he has the same stamina he has at 135, he can give anyone in that division trouble....It doesn't matter against slick boxer types, or even straight out sluggers. He'd give Junior Witter, Vivian Harris or Souleymane M'baye real problems, as a focused, well conditioned and certainly talnted fighter.Power isn't the only factor. Speed can beat power. However at the moment Hatton is too much for him. A peak Hatton stops Diaz by the 9th, not a straight KO, but Diaz hasn't got the kind of defence that would stop Hatton from wearing him down, whilst Diaz's punches won't really hurt Hatton. You have to be able to hurt Hatton to beat Hatton, as otherwise he can just keep on slamming hooks into the body until he wears his opponent down and goes in for the kill.Comment

I like Diaz.. He is young.. He in college and he doing his thing.. **** i wanna do the same.. I give that dude props..
Diaz wins by UD.. Isn't Diaz fighting Casamayor?Comment

Oh yes he does! Because of his fighting style dude. If he fights like PBF or Zahir Raheem or Iavn Calderon, he doesn't need power to go up.
He wins his fights at 135 by moving forward and outworking his opponents. Guys with weaker punches. If he goes up to 140 with that style, 4 punches from him and one from the opponent he still gonna end up hurt and may not be able to continue moving forward to pressure the 140 lber guys.Comment
