    Ali wasnt popular with other boxers, because he tended to make them look ****** either at the fight, or beforehand. Ali was popular throughout his career with the fans though, it certainly dipped during his lay-off, but it came back stronger than ever afterwards. If you watch the documentaries, virtually nobody liked his arrogance and boasting...until he went out and backed it up by beating Liston. As soon as he did that, everyone loved him. A huge amount of people didnt even give Liston a shot in the rematch either.
