Thus giving everyone all these weight classes gives opportunities. In a way, it's like job security for boxing
I think of the little guys the same as I think of the Special Olympics. I guess it's nice they have their competitions, but it's not real.

Personally i believe there should be less weights and therefore less champions. i believe there should only be these 6:
      Flyweight - 112lbs
      Lightweight -135lbs
      Welterweight -147lbs
      Middleweight -160lbs
      Light-Heavyweight -175lbs
      Heavyweight - (no limit)

      do you agree?
Not 6, that's too little. 8, including bantamweight, and featherweight.

I think that no featherweights would be ridiculous.

more than you think, if you consider prefight dehydration.

I have a mag where Jake La Motta says that he wishes that they had more weight classes in his time . He said that his biggest problem was that he was too small for fighting at light heavy but he was too big for making weight at middle weight.
If I had it my way I would just change the weight limit of each class. With heavyweights being 6'5-7'0 250-300lbs, there leaves little chance of smaller men in the 5'10-6'3 200-220 lbs range too be successful. I would expand the heavyweight limit to 220lbs+ , Crusierweight 180-219,and so on.
It's really not that big of a change and would open up the crusier weight class too become what the heavyweight class was at it's best.

I think its fine how it is. It may be that a couple divisions could be eliminated, but as far as the lower weights go, 5 or so pounds represents a higher percentage of their body weights than it does for the bigger guys and differences in weight are more pronounced as a result.

I agree. Particularly with the smaller guys. There is a need for more weight classes with the little guys. A few pounds in those small weight classes makes up for a large percentage a thier weight. So you may think it's only 3-5 pounds, but it's actually a significant percentage of their body weight. In fact I think there should be one more weight class, 220 or 230lbs as the Heavyweight division, then everything above that as Super Heavy. And yes there are too many governing bodies. There should only be one. The World Boxing Council, all others should be eliminated. The green belt is the most prestigious.
