  • Oliver Stuns Stark in Controversial Fashion

The main event left a sour taste in the mouths of the ShoBox crowd.

USBA junior featherweight champion Mike Oliver (18-0, 7 KOs) won a controversial twelve-round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten Gary Stark, Jr. (18-1, 8 KOs). [details]

That fight was close as hell. I dont get it, the announcers were saying oh the cards may be a few rounds ahead for one fighter and could be a few for the other because these close rounds. Then they complained when the cards werent like theirs. I thought it was a close fight. I had it 6 rounds each but though Stark deserved it because he wanted to fight and Oliver kept holding.

I think a rematch is in order.

Damn that sucks. I thought Starks would stay undefeated, but ****. They should have a rematch then.

He probably should still be undefeated. The crowd booed the decision. It was close but Oliver fought lik a bich and Stark fought like a man and he wanted it way more.

This is why they should use world class judges for televised fights. **** im tired of these judges who can't judge for ****. Like in that Collazo fight son! That fight should have been a draw.

That fight was Gary's 100%. Judges should get routine eye exams.

I'll talk to him tomorrow to see what he thinks.

Just got in. Fight did NOT live up to (my) expectations. Neither guy fought as well as they normally do... the clash of style didnt really make for a very good fight. The judges though were very experienced guys who had been in title fights, etc etc. When it was over I was not overly excited because Mike, even though he got what was obviously a much closer fight, didn't fight with his usual explosive style. I wanted a much better performance...Stark dictated the way the fight was fought and he did good with that while Mike landed the cleaner looking punches overall. They SHOULD have a rematch, that would be fair, but TV probably didnt like the matchup

I've seen Oliver on two different networks; surely there's a station out there that would broadcast a rematch?

U never know..Mike is a good TV fighter...normally but he didnt show his usual excitemennt tonight with this particular opponent so it is doubtful they would want to risk having a bad looking fight on their air

Well hell, your guy got the 'W' so need to rush the rematch; as both fighters grow and continue to have sucess, maybe the "unfinished business" aspect of it will make a rematch more attractive...
