    WelterWeight Reanasance

Wow, this is going to be the Year of the Welter Weights, jrWW, WW and SuperWW. So far we have these fights scheduled for the first half of this year.

    Hatton vs Castillo

    Margarito vs Paul Williams

    Cotto vs Judah

    Oscar vs Floyd jr

Mosley vs Collazo (already fought this year)

Mosley vs Cintron (possibly in June)

Those are the ones already scheduled for the first half of '07. For the second half we have a list of probable and possible fights.

    Margarito vs Cotto
    Williams vs Cotto
    Judah vs Margarito
    Judah vs Williams
Depending on the winner of there respective fights

Mosley vs Floyd jr back at 147lbs

Hatton vs PBF or Cotto (if he steps back up to 147lbs)
    Hatton vs Corrales

    Mosley vs Cotto

Anyway the WW divisions are finally using the abundance of Talent to face each other.

Golden Boy Promotions are in talks with Fight Academy about staging a Hatton/Oscar fight at the City of Manchester Stadium in Sept or Oct, regardless of whether Oscar beats Mayweather or not.

Interesting shat. Would be a huuge fight, Hatton the biggest ticket seller of the last 10 years against Oscar the biggest name in American boxing of the last 10 years outside Tyson. Hatton would draw 40,000+ Man City fans, and Oscar draws near a million PPV to the Home Box Office in the States I'm told.

This is the best that the division has been in years. Since the late 90's for sure...when guys like Quartey, Carr, DLH, Trinidad, Mosley etc were around.

The current crop of Welterweights just keep getting better and better. With all of these potential fights and some already set in stone, the Welterweight division is really going to take hold of 2007. I don't know why so many "casual fans" think boxing is **** simply because the Heavyweight division isn't there anymore.

If it's excitement that a casual fan wants, the lower weight classes provide so much more than the Heavyweight divison ever could.

Exactly I think the lower weights have been the real excitment in boxing, at least during my life time. Its a shame that casual fans dont truly appreciate the beauty of the lower weights where there is a higher diversity of styles. I applaud all the WW's for stepping it up and fighting each other. I'm very very excited about this year.

This is the best year of potential matchups I can remember in a long time as well. With all of this welterweight action unfolding, Marquez/Vazquez, Green/Miranda, Hopkins/Wright, Barrera/Marquez, and several other great fights on the horizon, this could be a special year.
