Who can Ali be alleged to have "ducked"?

I saw this allegation the other day, but never got an answer on it. Someone remarked that if you wanted to detract, you could build an argument that Ali ducked opponents.

Okay, I know about Ken Norton IV, but other than that, what's with this?

ali didnt fight people he didnt want to fight. He beleaved he was like a god and he decided what he would and wuldnt do. I dont think he realy ducked any1

Ali was pretty remarkable in that he did end up taking on all his significant contenders at one time or another. I do remember people saying he was ducking Norton or Foreman or Lyle, or whatever, but he did always end up in the ring with all of them.

He was also winding down at a time when there were only a few real up-and-coming contenders. I remember people talking about him ducking Holmes when he fought Spinks the first time, but of course he ended up losing to Spinks instead, and that delayed his matchup with Holmes until it was too late. I seem to recall people saying he was ducking Bobick too (the great white hope at the time), but in retrospect, he probably would've beaten Bobick pretty easily.

All in all, while he might've delayed some matchups, he ended up fighting and defeating most of the big guys. That's what a great champ does.
