If the networks wanted this fight "bad" then why was a purse bid ordered? Top Rank would have made it possible for HBO or Showtime as dates are scarces... No... This is because of the offer Goossen made... he is in it now as we all know that, for as much as we the hardcore fans want to see this fight, it is going to be a tough sell to the general population... Just be happy he is fighting either guy. Margarito is proving that he cares about his legacy by accepting every tough challenge that comes his way. Not many fighters do that and he gets much respect for that.

“Parece que el reglamento de la OMB es serio y psicológicamente puede afectar a Margarito. Pues que Cotto haga su defensa con (Oktay) Urkal y luego podremos unificar”, agregó.

Según Espinosa, fueron presionados para aceptar la oferta de Dan Goossen, quien la semana pasada ganó la subasta para presentar el combate al hacer una oferta de $1.5 millones por los derechos, de los cuales $1.2 millones serán para Margarito.

Yes, HBO or Showtime surely threw some money into the pot if indeed this fight becomes official. HBO loves Williams and surely hopes he can win the title to get a Cotto fight lined up for later this year (knowing boxing I'm sure Williams would take a tune-up in between).

Showtime, on the other hand, needs an April main event and this fits the bill perfectly. Goosen seems to have a good relationship with Showtime (a la Shaw), and of course Arum just did the December 2 show with them.

I'm guessing this is going to be a Showtime April 7 event. In that case, the winner would have barely two months to get ready for Cotto, and that would be asking a bit much after what will surely be a grueling fight one way or the other.

Where will Cotto go now? Margarito was a great opponent for his annual parade fight at the Garden, but now the list is underwhelming. It won't be Hatton or Castillo, obviously, and I would HOPE, sincerely HOPE, that it won't be Corrales. (I don't want Corrales to get seriously hurt) HBO wants no part of a wrongful death suit, so it won't be Gatti either. Forget Mosley, with the GBP/Top Rank war in full swing.

Maybe, if Collazo beats Mosley, you have your fight.

Too bad Judah is fighting in late April, but seeing as he will make short work of Cardona (hopefully for him), why not take the fight with just over a month to prep and try to shock the world and get back on top of the welter division?
