But Pacquiao will still fight in April, this time a week earlier on the 21st, in Texas, marking his return to the state where his career reached new heights.

Pacquiao started his rise as a future boxing Hall of Fame in Texas after he scored an 11th round TKO win over Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in November 2004.

“We don’t know the reason of the cancellation of the Macau fight but we received communication from Bob Arum that Manny’s fight will be on April 21 in Texas,” Rex “Wakee” Salud told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.

According to Salud, the Macau fight will still push through but it will be held later this year, probably by September or October.

“I still don’t have the name ( of Pacquaio’s opponent) yet, but what I was told is that he will be fighting against a South African,” said Salud.

Top Rank is aiming to attract the Filipino, Hispanic and other Asian market from Texas and nearby states with the fight, while Pacquiao is expected to start his training in the US in the middle of this month.

Freddie Roach will still train Pacquiao and possibly the Filipino ring icon will be training alongside Oscar De La Hoya in Puerto Rico. (RCM)
Damn I wanted the fight with chi to go on but I hope this other guy they're about to choose can put something up.

Might as well get a credible opponent like Guzman or Sotto. Other than that how could ****i'n Arum sell that fight and how could it generate PPV buys.

I'm sorry but Pacquaio is not the "no fear man" that I use to know. Arum is turning him into a ALL HYPE fighter and I'm deeply disappointed.

Me too, I'm all good for that Chi fight because I know Chi could push Pacquiao to the limit but It's not gonna happen now so Arum should get a credible opponet for Pacquiao.

              Pacman offered title shot!
"If the Pacman is coming to Texas April 21, I believe we have the perfect opponent for him in one Juan Diaz, WBA lightweight champion," writes Diaz' manager Willie Savannah in an email. "I noticed that Pacquaio weighed 142 lbs. on the night he fought Morales. Juan would be willing to consider putting his belt on the line against the great Pacman. "Pacman" vs "The Baby Bull" would be a great attraction in Texas. We are not the type of people to call boxers out, but this is a bout that would be one for the sake of boxing with two young guys putting it on the line."

OK, this is really starting to irritate me.

How long is the Top Rank/GBP litigation going to take? Arum thinks he can get a fight in on April 21 AND then another fight in Macau in September/October?

This thing should be settled before he goes and plans fights that obviously are not coming together as easily as he thought. He thought Chi was basically a done deal, but when things take that long to finalize, they usually don't get finalized (which is why I'm not holding my breath anymore for Hopkins-Wright, it's taking too long to become official).

If Pac doesn't fight Soto--which is a perfect and very acceptable fight--then anything else that's realistic (I don't count Juan Diaz as realistic, and definitely not Guzman who is co-promoted by GBP) is not acceptable.

Does anyone have any kind of timetable on this litigation? In all the articles/news about the situation, I have never seen anyone even speculate on a timetable.

Oh, and on a separate thought: don't the distractions just seem to be piling up for Pac?

Think prime Tyson (I just read a great article on him by Eric Raskin over at maxboxing.com); there is so much going on in Pac's personal life right now that fighting seems to be the furthest from his mind. If it wasn't, he would have taken the Chi fight and it would be set.

Besides the obvious promotional issues, you've got the trainer issue now, and of course his political aspirations, and it goes on and on.

If Arum puts him in there with Soto, Humberto would be a very live dog.
