MACAU and In Jin Chi will have to wait for Manny Pacquiao until later this year.
The much-hyped April 28 date with the Korean Chi at the Wynn’s Hotel and Casino in the former Portuguese colony, has been put off to a later date.
But Pacquiao will still fight in April, this time a week earlier on the 21st, in Texas, marking his return to the state where his career reached new heights.
Pacquiao started his rise as a future boxing Hall of Fame in Texas after he scored an 11th round TKO win over Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera in November 2004.
“We don’t know the reason of the cancellation of the Macau fight but we received communication from Bob Arum that Manny’s fight will be on April 21 in Texas,” Rex “Wakee” Salud told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
According to Salud, the Macau fight will still push through but it will be held later this year, probably by September or October.
“I still don’t have the name ( of Pacquaio’s opponent) yet, but what I was told is that he will be fighting against a South African,” said Salud.
Top Rank is aiming to attract the Filipino, Hispanic and other Asian market from Texas and nearby states with the fight, while Pacquiao is expected to start his training in the US in the middle of this month.
Freddie Roach will still train Pacquiao and possibly the Filipino ring icon will be training alongside Oscar De La Hoya in Puerto Rico. (RCM)
