Margarito Still Open To Facing Paul Williams

What has Williams done to get the plaudits he received. Granted I have only seen him fight a couple of times but I was unimpressed, to be honest. Cotto would definitely beat him, and stop him IMO. I don't think Margarito would have too much trouble either. Williams reminds me a little of Kermit Cintron and we all know what happened there. Decent fight, though, and it will show us a bit more about Margarito before the Cotto fight.

Williams fights nothing like Cintron. Williams is a volume puncher, Cintron has one punch KO power. The only similarity is that they are both big welters. I agree Williams hasn't done all that much in his career, but we won't find out if he's the truth until someone steps up and fights him. I'll be glad to see him get his shot...

Oh absolutely, not in style, but insofar as they have a big reputation, big punchers but have not REALLY done so much. But like I said, a good fight that will tell us more about Margarito if nothing else.

i think the key is that margarito's promotional team does not have the right to this fight, which means his promoter won't make the big bucks.
margarito should make this fight happen, if he wins good, he can ask for more money when and if he fights cotto.
margarito needs the credibility right now.

I still have a feeling the fight won't happen. I think Margarito's people want it because it's more money than Cotto, but I don't think Arum wants it to happen because he won't get paid since he's not promoting it and he won't have a good opponent lined up for Cotto at MSG...

As reported this past Thursday here at Boxingscene.com, WBO 147-pound champion Antonio Margarito and his team had not yet decided to vacate the title and were planning to make a final decision last Friday. [details]

Francisco Espinoza who is part of Margarito’s management team stated, “We have not made a final decision yet, but Antonio (Margarito) is seriously considering making his mandatory title defense.”
