    Outlook For Chad....

ICEMAN DIARIES: February 3, 2007: So Chad fights on Showtime tonight and wins the WBC title in what I hear was impressive fashion (I didn't see the fight). It must have been pretty impressive because I was on my computer at the time (working on this book, as a matter of fact) and I got numerous instant messages and three phone calls during the fight, including one from former top contender Scott Pemberton who was extremely impressed with Chad's performance, and each one implied that Chad looked very good. Halfway through the 10th, though, right in the middle of saying how great Chad looked, Scottie all of a sudden goes "WOW, Chad's down!! I can't believe it, man, he's down. He got dropped!!"

He gets up to win the fight, though, by a wide margin and is now a world champion. I heard that his right jab was a big factor in the fight and obviously that was good to hear for me and, really, the only negative about his showing that I am hearing is that he did get dropped and was apparently hurt afterwards for more than a short time. That actually makes things even more interesting probably because as good as he looked, and with his height and speed, you probably cannot mention the names Tarver, Hopkins, Jones or even Calzaghe now without bringing Chad's name up, too.

do you give floyd snr any credit for his corner performance

    chad did

On new trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr., Dawson commented "When I switched trainers, I knew it would be for the best. It paid off. We had our differences but we buckled down. Floyd Mayweather is the best trainer of all time."

LOL let me tell you something LOL yo uhave to know Chad why he said that...Chad has only been with Mayweather for three weeks..... when he was with me he said I was the best, when he went with Dan he said he was the best.....you have to know Chad personally to undestand... whenhe left Dan,before he went with Floyd, I said to many people here (In Conn.) "I guarantee you, WHOEVER Chad gets with next as a trainer he will say they are the best trainer out there." And obviously I was right. It's not even necessarily a bad thing but...Chad is doing this: When you get re-married and have a dinner party, you don't tell everybody there that your ex-wife wass the best cook ever.....not with your new wife standing there with the casserole she just cooked. You know? Chad apparently won that fight last night with the jab (EVERYBODY knows who gave him that weapon) and his counter punching, his slickness etc. Chad has been supremely slick and elusive and a great combination puncher ever since he was 15 or 16.... Floyd Sr. had a finished product..all he had to do was be there and perform well in the corner

Chad did look good and he did dominate the fight. He made Adamek look like Arturo Gatti when he fought Mayweather (although Chad's performance wasn't as impressive). The point is that Adamek looked lost and was always off balance and just too slow for his opponent. I had Chad winning every second of every round until he got dropped in the 10th, and I thought he lost the 11th, too. Other than that, they traded KDs and Chad won 10 rounds in the fight.

The KD in the 10th was a factor of Chad dropping his hands because he was a bit too comfortable and a bit too complacent. Adamek's KD was clearly a trip as their feet got tangled, but when it happened live, I couldn't tell; it looked legit until they showed the angle from above.

All in all, a very good scrap.

Understand one thing too..... the corner and the training for a fight are not the same thing.. a guy can be good at one and not the other..... saying someone is the best trainer is funny to me... it is UNREALISTIC if you think about it... a trainer has to have a fighter to work with...does anyone REALLY think if Floyd Sr. was in ADAMEK'S corner that he would have beaten Chad?? You know?

Also, one trainer can be the best in the world for one guy, and the worst in the world for another. Training fighters is also a lot about chemistry between fighter and trainer.

EXACTLY, thank you!! Man, so far I have had great chemistry with all my amateur boxers and with pros Dawson and Mike Oliver. I think I do better with the younger guys because they are less set in their ways and are more open to doing what I tell them. There are certain trainers I don't think I myself, as great as they supposedly are, would jive well with.
