First off, to bring the US public back, boxing needs fights like Marquez-MAB to be on regular HBO. Instead of raping the hardcore fans (a shrinking number these days), they have to make closer and competitive fights.

That is never going to happen if Mayweather gets 5mil for fighting mitchell and a little higher for fighting a legit threat in Margarito (or whoever... I'm not trying to start that PBF-Marg controversy again). It just doesn't make financial sense. I can fight a has been for a large sum or someone who can dethrone me and lose me millions in future fights for a slightly higher percentage. I would do the same thing PBF is doing, and you would too. I am not singling him out by the way, there are plenty of fighters guilty of this, just using him as an example.

So really its up to the networks to stop ofering big paydays for ****ty fights and reserving the big paydays for competitive fights. It's what UFC is doing and its working, and its why this sport is becoming smaller and smaller with each passing year.
