Floyd Mayweather - Cassius Clay

Ali became a cultural icon because he was the greatest at what he did, inside and outside of the ring, at a time when America and the world needed it.
The world needs that again, the thing is Floyd is the greatest of now in the ring, he just does not have the inteligence or the education to be that out of the ring.
Tyson captured the worlds imagination for a while but it seems to me that the important cultural athelets of today, the people making statements that are trancending the world of athletics, they are playing other sports. I.E.-Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods.
History does repeat itself so to say there will Never be another ALI is not true, it just might take longer than we expect. And the person will definitly not be boxing.Comment

Don't get me wrong I think Ali was great. What he done for boxing and his character, he was truely a legend.
But at times I think he was a little narrow-minded and didn't think he had to listen to anyone else because what he said was right and what anybody else said was wrong.Comment

Well, it really has to do with how you use that big mouth. When Clay did it, he was charming, a little silly, and didn't take himself too seriously. He made it fun and entertaining.if you think about it, cassius did have a pretty big mouth durin his career he gloated and shouted about how brilliant he was and that he was the best in the world. Now think about floyd and how big his mouth is now hes bragin on about how hes the best in the world and the best ever. Cassius is now loved by 99% of all boxin fans, the man was a genius and full credit to floyd he is a fantastic boxer. It took several years for people to begin to like cassius unless a lot of people already liked him then but my question is, in a few years time will the boxin fans start to realise how good a boxer floyd was and begin to like him like they did cassius i mean they both are very skilled and talented, but with big mouths and one is already loved, will the other be in years to come?
Mayweather just comes off as an arrogant, boorish, classless, egocentric *******.Comment

Ali transcended the sport. In fact, he transcended sport in general.
He was a cultural and religious icon out of the ring. In the ring he ducked nobody, he had an entertaining warrior style, fought some brutal fights and took some incredible beatings. In interviews he was never anything but engaging, interesting, eloquent and most of all funny.
There will never be another sports personality like him.Comment
