i Dont think Hatton would get beat at 140 but would have trouble with Cotto at 147. and as for Calzaghe i dont think anybody out there, i.e Winky/Taylor/Hopkins could beat him right now. i Just hope he fights one of them this summer and proves himself.
British Boxers Better Than American Boxers

I agree about Hatton & Calzaghe..But Khan still has a way's to go.I'd say he's light years away from Mayweather status.Yes I am new to the forum as a poster but as I said have been a long time reader.
I expect people to be biased depending on whether they are from America or Britain. As for Lewis only conquering America, how many Americans have conquered Britain?
Bouts like the Benn v Eubank battles from the early 90s epitimises what British boxing is all about. The likes of Khan, Hatton, and Calzaghe are for me the best pound-for-pound boxers in the world right now and Maywhatver his name is has light years to catch these boysComment

Khan has no inside fighting skills (atleast yet), atleast I've never seen them - amateur or pro.
He's great at distance though, obviously very fast hands, rangey, overlapping punches and naturally good mechanics. He doesn't waste shots when he's relaxed, and has nimble ring movement. He can feint and move in and out well too and has a very good left hook to the body. He's good.Comment

American fighters are, on the whole, better than British fighters but that could have to do with the opportunities afforded to them and the size of the population.
However, the country has produced Sugar Ray Robinson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler, Muhammad Ali, Roy Jones Jr, Oscar De La Hoya, Willy Pep, Jack Johnson, Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano...
This compares favourably with our fighters - Lennox Lewis, Naseem Hamed, John H Stracey, Ken Buchanan, Ricky Hatton, Joe Calzaghe, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, John Conteh, Randy Turpin...
We don't do bad for such a small country but like it or not, the best fighters over the years have come from America. I believe that is, at least in part, down to the opportunities the Americans are given as Las Vegas is where the big fights take place and naturally Americans wanna see Americans fight, but the facts are the facts. We have some great wins over there against great Americans but to say British fighters are better is not true I am afraid.Comment

I think when you factor in everything.. P4P the British have done quite well for themselves compared to countries of similar population.. and on a PER CAPITA basis could compete with the USA for overall talent.. Just not in volume..Comment

Before there was Las Vegas, there was Madison Square Garden. And even before MSG, we still had legendary fighters.
The greats came from relatively poor neighborhoods. Recently, other sports have been sucking up a lot of the talent from becoming potential boxers. Britain, IMO, does a better job of taking care of the poor than the US. So it's not surprising that you won't have as many "hungry" fighters as here in the US.Comment
